I also am on the Tesla Cybertruck forum having placed a reservation on a CT close to 5 years ago. Total waste of time, conversations on the CT forum revolve around
Vanity License plates and a bunch of other useless crap. I'll probably assign my CT reservation to my Millenial age son.

Great gift! Nothing says "I love you" like the opportunity to buy one of the stupidest and ugliest vehicles ever produced.

It's ugly and the trailer hitch is a failure point.

Have you tried to replicate any of the WhistlinDiesel durability tests with your 4Runner?

 

He's married, out of Grad School and already has 3 kids. I better assign my reservation to him before he has more children!

 

This guy is so dumb. The Teslas rear end was dropped onto a concrete pylon probably cracking the "frame" and didn't note this fact. Then tests a regular truck bed due to comments, but does it with with no where near the amount of weight as a Tesla.

Still shouldn't happen, but it shouldn't happen to begin with. lol

 

He did a a follow up video where he dropped the f150 numerous times.. steel just bends.. didn’t fracture like aluminum

 

Yes, saw that, kind of my point. 100% on the steel vs aluminum, guy just doesn't know how to test stuff scientifically. The Tesla is 2000 lb heavier than the F150 too.

For dropping onto a concrete pilon, yes, definitely.

I would love to have seen an extra 2000lb on the steel frame f150 just to be sure though.

 

It’s not the f150’s fault that batteries are so heavy.

Do you have an option to operate the cybertruck without the heavy batteries?

Do you have an option to have the F150 operate on batteries? No, but you can have them equal the same weight for a more useful and comparative test of the 2 frames. Could produce useful results to make change, like steel frame EV's.

Just looking for equil scientific testing if one is going to test at all. Would be nice to have insight as to how much better a steel frame with all the same parameters would test.

 

What scientific testing do you expect from whistlin' diesel? The Cyber truck broke, people commented that the F-150 would have broken in the same scenario, and he proved it didn't. I don't understand what else you think that he needs to do.

If it's about the weight of the Cyber truck, well he tested the trucks as designed and delivered.

Weight doesn't change metallurgy, I would wager that if he put 2,000 lb of weight in the back of the F-150 and did the same test, the result would have been the same.

End of day, cast aluminum is probably not the best material for the chassis of a 9000 lb truck to be made of.

I'll add that I've been watching WD videos since the early days, and he's beaten the crap out of a lot of vehicles, and I don't remember any of them having failures where the frame just cracked and broke.

 

I guess i don't expect much if anything from whistlin diesel. Hes pure entertainment it seems, and is not doing this to truly prove or disprove anything.

 

What WD proves is red necks do stupid stuff. But, rednecks prove in completely unscientific ways that vehicles break.
I recently winched a Bobcat skidsteer track loader out of a mud bog w my 5th gen and a 9500 lb Super winch. Did it pull it right out? no. Is the super winch better than any other winch? no. Would I like to do that with an aluminum frame truck? no.
Am I happy that I got lucky, that no one was killed and nothing broke? Hell yeah.

evs are heavy. This fact is inescapable. What’s the point of loading the f150 to match the ev’s mass?

we are not trying to handicap f150 to the same level as the cybertruck.
Start with the same baseline of two truck not weighted down with cargo

I also want to see this. One thing that I did find VERY impressive was how well the body panels & glass took a beating. When he put that C-4 or whatever on the door and the Cyber truck barely had a scratch on it.

I bet the Cyber truck would make a really good armored vehicle. It'd be easy to up-armor. Think about it. Another layer of glass all around. A few steel plates for the interior panels and run-flats with a central tire inflation system. Drug lords, heads of state and ruthless dictators would love it.

 

Actually, using C4 to seal a door may sound like a wild, crazy idea, BUT, as long as there's nothing that could cause a small explosion in contact with the C4, it's a pretty safe substance. Yes, it's a powerful explosive, but it needs a detonator of some sort to set it off. Otherwise, it's just a relatively malleable form of plastic. Fairly inert.
Heck, you can even ignite it, a very small bit of it, with a match under a thin walled canteen cup to heat your coffee, or your C-Rats. It burns pretty fast, and very hot, but as for exploding, no way, without a detonator. A small explosive of some sort, to set it off. Given the way I've seen some Teslas burn, I wonder, sometimes...
