I fully intend on keeping my 2024 4Runner for many years
(My last Toyota was an 2006 Tacoma)
Went in today to the Toyota Dealer that I normally go to for my first optional-on my dime.
oil change at 2,000 miles. Charge was a little over $80! Man, that was expensive or is it my
imagination???!!! I will have to look closer at the receipt, is that a common price now for an oil change on a new 4Runner?

That's a common price for an oil change on any car taking full synthetic. $40 worth of oil and $40 worth of labor.

Good job with an early oil change! Yes, oil changes is more expensive, part of it is that is inflation and part is that synthetic low viscosity oil just cost more. This oil is suppose to last longer, but it doesn't quite live up to advertised promises unless you only do highway driving. So plan on doing all oil changes slightly early.

Also, to make your 4Runner last, look into rustproofing frame if you live anywhere where they salt roads. You can do it yourself with Fluid Film or get it oil sprayed by Krown or similar.

Fortunately or Unfortunately I live in Southern California. The only damage risk to my frame is the possibility of running over a homeless shopping cart.

Question, does my new 2024 4Runner come from the factory with Synthetic Oil or Conventional Oil?

Synthetic. It is likely Mobil 1 with some extra Moly.

See below my initial oil analysis for details:

Not necessary at all change it every 10k with any brand of synthetic and your runner will outlast your ownership

Hell, in 20 years I'll be 91 years old! I wonder if I'll be able to convert my 2024 4Runner for a wheel chair ramp?

it is necessary at that mileage or less on his new 2024 to remove break in contaminents. I changed mine on my new 2022 at 1000 miles, then next oil change was at 6000. After that, I do it every 8000

New 4Runner with only 2,000 miles is under warranty. The oil changes at 5,000 miles are covered. I opted to change the oil at 2,000 miles on my dime
and save the free oil changes at the next interval and forward.
If I were to change my own oil and something went wrong with the engine I'm pretty sure Toyota would potentially back out of the warranty?
So I paid $40 more to have it done rather than doing it myself. Been there done that with many many vehicles over 55 year of vehicle ownership...Heck, the dealership usually has donuts, coffee and popcorn anyway
while I wait to have the oil changed for me.

I just noticed that my local Toyota dealer sells their Toyota brand 6 quart case for less than the parts stores sell the 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 .

Wow. Good price . Which version of 0w/20 did you look at ? I totally forgot to check Walmart . Local Toyota wants $39.18 for the 6 qt case . One more was an additional $6.53 .

The stupid thing takes 7 quarts. Your dealer is a saint to charge you $80 for the whole deal. Plus tire rotation and inspection. Where do you live?

Just my theory, but shortening oil change intervals on a 1GR probably tends to provide more peace of mind than any measurable longevity b/c with just the recommended service, they’ll go the distance regardless. But then, hopefully you didn’t just pay 80 bucks to swap out your factory full synthetic with something “wet & oily”.

Call me a cynic, but especially with Toyotas, I equate longer service life with the least amount of times that the dealer actually touches it.
