I recently got a new 2024 TRD Pro 4Runner. The high, low and fog lights are factory LED's. I wanted to upgrade the DRL's to LED's and found a post on this forum that outlined the process. Here are a few pics of mine. I made up a plug and play harness with factory type connectors wrapped in DR25 Motorsports wire loom. The ground is attached at the factory location by the air pump.

Just out of curiosity, why aren't these just plug and play?

Just did this myself. The led's now match the rest of the lights. I didn't like the yellowish color of the stock DRL's.

The DRL's are the same bulbs as the high beam bulbs. The brightness is reduced by using pulse width modulation (using that phrase makes you sound smart). If you replace the bulb with an LED bulb without other modifications, it will strobe or not work at all.

I have a 2023 Pro, led headlights so the drl's are separate from the headlights.

I guess I should have said they were the same type bulb, not a shared bulb.

That's true on older vehicles, but shouldn't be on a '24. The high beams are LED.
In more recent models, they are completely different. Newer 4Rs (I think 2022+) have LED high beams and halogen DRLs.

On my 24 the DRL bulbs are not the same as the high beam. The DRL is a conventional halogen bulb and is not PWM. The factory wires the DRL lights in series so the nominal operating voltage is cut in half. That's an easy way to keep the brightness down. The jumper harness changes the circuit to a parallel circuit applying the full operating voltage. Typically about 13.5v. This will make the LED lights full bright, no flickering.

I figured that out after I opened the hood and got the multi meter out. I should have checked it out first, but I just got the truck last Saturday. The last of the dependable Toyotas.

Please be aware that now you are running the DRLs at full 12v, the bulbs are at full brightness and are equivalent to high beam brightness. Even during daylight hours, the DRLs will be very bright to drivers in front of you, especially cars that are lower in height. It will be uncomfortable to those drivers. I have been in front of a 4Runner that did this and it was obvious the bulbs were full brightness and was not pleasant to look at in my rear view.

I'm confused. How are they the same type of bulb when one is a halogen, and the other is an LED?

Yes they are. My 23 TRD PRO has LED hi and lo beams. The DRL is a separate haolgen bulb.

Someone will eventually make a led bulb for this issue. I can't believe it hasn't been done yet.

Exactly. The person I was replying to above said that they are the same type of bulb.

Anyone doing the upgrade should find a very low lumin bulb for the replacement. We don't need 4runner's running around blinding people like jeep owners. I hate it when the d'bags upgrade to led headlights but are too ignorant to aim them so they don't blind oncoming traffic.

No. Don’t touch the driver’s side at all. Passenger side do not ground the wires coming from the truck. Just the LED bulb.

I finally understand that the pax side is the only getting the harness. Thanks for the reply.

I don't believe LED bulbs can be wired in series and both work. Now someone could build a socket that contained the necessary wiring to put them in parallel but that already been done with the adapter harness.

anyone have some knowledge on the DRL wiring diagram for 2020's? I have one DRL (passenger side) that won't turn on when stalk is on Auto. works with parking lights so I know the LED isnt blown, its just when the only the DRL's should be on (which is when they are dimmer than the parking lights). I'm guessing there's a dimmer module relay or something that feeds each DRL side independently that might be stuck or bad. Its a pain getting to my fuse box so I want to make sure I know what the problem is and have the part to fix it before i remove my mount trays to get to the fuse/relays. could anyone recreate the prob by pulling the passenger side dimmer relay and verifying all other lights function as normal besides the passenger DRL in auto?

2020 used PWM, tuned for halogen bulbs, to dim the combined DRL/high beam. LEDs will flicker or not work as you’ve experienced. VLEDs I think makes a bulb specifically for what you’re wanting.
