Pop-ups are definitely a nice option for getting a lot of sleeping space in an easy towing package. Mine is around 1500#, and could sleep 9-10 in a pinch, and 6-8 comfortably.

Definitely not a good option if you're going off road to reach your campsite, though.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Mine is, well...was, about the same weight. It even had an A/C unit on the roof and a "sho-ielt" The shower-toilet combo! Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah, fancy camping. I don't have the camper anymore but I sure do miss it. I bought it for $1500 owned it for several years, used it A LOT and sold it for $800 when it was falling apart.

Money well spent if you ask me.

Haha! I got mine for $750, but the fridge doesn't work. It needs a little TLC, but it's getting the job done.

Ditch the roof top tent and use a ground tent. Then you can use the top for storage. Also sell the 4runner and buy a 200 series

6 people going camping in a 4Runner? Holy hell. Just trade it in on a Sequoia.

My 4R has carried five adults and their backpacks plus all my own month-long roadtrip gear. We were heading into a seven-day trip, so they were good-sized packs.

Front and back baskets can be done with a front hitch receiver.

Yikes. I do a lot of camping in my 4R, just me and sometimes my dog. For a week long trip isolated in the boonies the 4R is full with just us:) I can't imagine 6 people camping from a 4R, unless you store a lot of stuff in a hitch carrier And on the roof AND hit towns often to eat a meal and replenish supplies. If there were 6 of us, there is no way I could camp from the 4R by itself for a week in remote places. I would get a pop up trailer built for the off road or something similar. It would hold all of your gear and provide fairly comfortable sleeping, etc., and you could haul it to some remote places. And consider the comfort of the six of you on long drives.

If you figure out a workable solution for you, and it works well, let us know after the trip what you did.
