Having my windshield replaced. The tech said he can’t reattach the keypad to the new windshield. He said I’d have to go to the dealership to have it done. Has anyone done this themselves, if so what 3M style tape did you use? I’ve found the part number, but can’t find where I can purchase just the tape without purchasing the whole kit..

Are they using aftermarket glass or Toyota glass? If the tech can’t do the job, inform you insurance and take it to the dealership, where you will get yota glass.

What is this “keypad on the windshield” deal? I’m going to need a new windshield on my 2022 SR5 Premium because a small chip has expanded into a long crack!

So what and where is this “keypad on the windshield”? I was going to just have an independent auto glass shop replace my windshield.

Had my windshield replaced by Safelight and went with Non Toyota glass since it didn't hold up well.

If they cant re-attach something that comes with the 4R i would find someone else. I have lots of aftermarket stuff on my windshield, but that's my responsibility.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Some Tacoma's & 4Runners (mainly in Florida, for some odd reason?) had this security feature on them:

Went through a few windshields on my two previous FJ's. & 1 Safelite on my 2015 Tacoma. 1 they didn't show the day they were supposed to do to the guy's vehicle didn't work, the next day it was close to a rain day, the chick scratched the paint on the top of where the windshield went in & yes their glass SUCKS!!! If I ever have to replace a wind shield I'll go back to local shop & use OEM glass even if ins makes me pay $100 like they wanted on Tacoma.

Safelite in my area has some really good guys so i am lucky. But OEM is not what it used to be ether. I was appalled at how easily OEM Toyota glass got damaged. I always negotiated for OEM glass, but it seems not worth it anymore.

“security” - sounds like actual hot garbage.

I’ve used Safelite twice and the product/service has been great. While I consider myself a “4Runner guy,” I’m not particular about factory glass.

It’s there for convenience like the Ford keypad.
Being tied to the windshield though is a pretty big con.

My F150 had the keypad and I loved it. I can’t tell you how many times I walked out to my ‘21 the first month before I started to remember the keys. Still happens but not very often.

A 1991 Lincoln Continental I had had it on the door. And really liked it. But windshield? A con is the right word.
