brake controller

I am trying to install a brake controller for my 2022 4runner SR5
2nd try with a different controller / the brake controller works as it should but I have alarms on my dash for , anti lock brake system and anti crash system , can't get any answers from brake controller company
would appreciate any help form anyone

 

What's brand? Did you have to wire it up or plug n play?

Rizz is short for “charisma,” and it simply means an ability to charm and woo a person. I think you got your snake charmed.

 

On my Tekonsha P-2, the dash lights freak out only when I apply the hand actuator. But once I got it fully adjusted to the particular trailer that I was towing that day, it worked without any other drama. I let the controller do its job and not use the thumb slide to test it.
Maybe invest in a name brand BC.

 

My redarc plugged right in with no issues. Sounds like the wiring isn't right on yours

 

I installed a redarc also. No issues. Plug and Play

 

1st one was a Tekonsha 90160 Primus, I had the same issue with that one , sent it back because I couldn't get any on line help from the company
tried calling and email , no response . the second one is Rizz-Man , same problem . they both work I just don't know why I'm getting these alarms .
it's only 4 wires , hot, ground, signal from brake light , and output to trailer brakes, if any one of these were wrong, it wouldn't work ,
maybe send this one back and try a Redarc. dealer want's $700 to install a brake controller , whoa !!!!

Step 1 should be to purchase from a reputable manufacturer. Ran a Tekonsha in mine with absolutely no issues.

Using a Tekonsha with a 2022 via factory harness with no issues. I wonder if there is some type of impedance issue possibly with the LED lighting or connections. As stated, I have no issues currently on my 4runner.

 

I have a Redarc and have no problems. I did read that early on with the newer model Toyota's with the extra safety nanny sensors there was an issue if you manually applied the brakes via the controller it would throw codes on the dash. The fix was to put a diode in line to prevent the brake signal from being sent to the vehicle computer. The harnesses they send now has the diode pre-wired in.

 

Interesting. Maybe that's why my P-2 disrupts the gauge cluster. Hmm
Damn nanny's.

 

OK !! 4th attempt , this time installed a REDARC Tow Pro Liberty
