I was just curious if these method wheels from a 4wd 2nd gen 4runner with manual hub front lockers would fit my 4th gen 4runner that is 2wd, as I am unfamiliar with manual hub lockers. Thanks in advance! IMG_4609.jpg IMG_4610.jpg

That looks lifted and chopped so doubt there is any chance they will fit unless you plan to do the same.

I get that but I meant the rim itself. Would it bolt onto my 4th gen 4Runner’s hub although it does not have the manual front lockers as it is 2wd?

The hub bore and lug pattern will work, the question is, will the brake calipers clear? What diameter are they? 15" rims probably wont work. What diameter are the rims on your 2wd?
    16"?

I am currently running the 5th gen 4Runner Trd off road wheels and I believe the wheels on the 2nd gen 4runner are either 16” or 17”.

The 4th gen Sport models had bigger brakes and require a 17" rim. That would be the only reason a 16" wouldn't work.

Yeah but the seller said it was 17” so it shouldn’t be a problem but we will see

I zoomed in on the tire, but I couldn't quite read the size. They look like 17s. Good Luck!

Be aware not all 17s will fit the Sport Edition. These came on Tacomas but grind on the larger Sport rotors. Bummer b/c I would run them if I could.

What features aside from the larger brakes do the Sport models exclusively have? A debadged 4runner is curious if its a Sport or falls short.
I ask because i was also just looking at some brand new tacoma take off rims and tires, but theyre the 16".

    Hood scoop, Sport. Otherwise, not.

The surest sign of a 4th gen 4Runner Sport is the "Dark Charcoal" interior. Visually, it looks black. It was only offered on the Sport.

Would not consider hood scoop as as sure sign. A lot of people liked the look of the hood scoop and added that hood to their SR5 or Limited.

There were three 4runner trims for 4th Generation
    • SR5
    • Sport
    • Limited
They added a fourth "Urban Runner" trim at the end of the run in 2008/2009.

You can google for original 4Runner brochures. Just add 'brochure pdf' to your search string.

From 2009 4Runner Brochure. This was an interesting year because the US and world economies collapsed due to housing market bubble pop.

Check the prices. I remember Toyota offering 0% financing if you went with 3 year payoff.

The 4th gen sport has Xreas shocks, a hood scoop and color matched painted grille, door handles, mirrors, rear spoiler as well as the larger rotors and the funky wide spoke 17" wheels.
The 5th gen sport has Xreas shocks, limited body cladding front end and lower side skirts and rear bumper, hood scoop, paint matched grille, door handles, bumpers, lower valance trim, and satin silver badges with matching satin silver 20" limited wheels.

The Urban Runner was a nice one, I had just taken possession of my 2008 TRD Sport i ordered in December 2007 and had it maybe a month or two and one day a blonde chick pulled up in the same parking lot i was in, in a brand new white Urban Runner. I was floored, i wanted it so bad, it was HAWT. I found out they were really limited production and i had just signed my life away on the 2008 TRD Sport and i couldnt un-ass it and go order an Urban Runner so i begged her to never sell it, let me buy it when she got ready to sell it.
The Urban Runner was a Sport, TRD Offroad, and Limited all wrapped up into one. It had the painted front grille, bumpers, door handles, mirrors, and rear spoiler, along with the hood scoop. The paint was the three stage pearl like the Limited has, it also had the bigger brakes from the Sport model, and the 18" limited wheels. The interior was "alacantara" and leather black and dark grey but the alacantara was soft like suede. It had a TomTom dash screen for navigation and the TomTom was removable so you could use it on a walk. The radio was pretty nifty for its time honestly. It had full skids like a TRD Offroad would have had, the three under the engine and trans along with the gas tank skid plate. The Urban Runner came with the mechanical limited slip from the TRD Sport models. Both front driver and passengers seats were power i think which only the Limited had.
Eventually the girl put it up for sale and i bought it with 122,000 miles and today i drive it daily and it has about 238,000 on the clock. I absolutely love the vehicle, its looks and function are absolutely everything i wanted and needed.

Not all 4th gen sports had color matched grill. My Sport did not come with a painted grill, although I wished it did. The fake chrome wrap is peeling.

Are you the original owner? You confident it’s not been in a body shop and the grille replaced?
Similar happening to me, wife had a 2020 Honda Accord Sport and we ordered it with the HRC stuff out of the accessories catalog. It came with black grille and front end rather than the black chrome a standard sport did.
She hit a deer and it went in the body shop and I gave them the catalog page, part number, and picture of the black grille it had. They still ended up with the black chrome grille from a standard sport. Wife was Uber pisst so they took it somewhere and had it vinyl wrapped and it was peeling in a few weeks. She traded it in pretty much directly after.
if you gotta chrome grille I suspect it was put there from an Sr5 cause I’m quite confident all the sports were painted.

Thanks for all the info. Definitely a sport here. Also has the fake chrome grill tho. Dark Carcoal seats, hood scoop, 6 spoke wheels. Had xreas, previous owner changed them out as they were shot.

I bought new. And I remember being bummed that it didn't come with matching grille because I really don't like the chrome look.

I remember the other Sport models on the lot had the same chrome grilles instead of color matched.

Very weird. I don’t remember them with chrome grille. What year model do you have? Maybe they ran out of painted grilles and just used the Sr5 grille all Willy nilly

Lol just accept you're wrong on this detail. Lol

Or google image '2008 4runner sport edition' and you'll see plenty chrome grilles.

The Limited was the only one that came with a painted grille to my knowledge. Sports had the “dark chrome” and the SR5s had standard chrome. PlastiDip is an option for anybody with problems related to peeling chrome. I did mine years ago but didn’t care for it and peeled it off.

The sport edition 4Runners only had paint-matched grills between 2003 and 2005 as the facelift that came in 2006 introduced the sports editions to feature chrome grills. Hope this cleared up any confusion :)

Never noticed that. I’ll have to watch for pre-‘06 Sports.

When i bought mine, used, the dark grey vinyl sides were cracked and busted up and you could see the foam in the side of the seat, even with only 122,000 miles. I swapped them out for black leather once i saved a few bucks.
Oh i forgot, the Urban Runner came with round side steps, round tube side steps unlike any of the other 4Runners. I took them off and put a set of Limited floorboards on with the lights.

I had the flat ones on my 2008, maybe I changed them too.

It was standard on the Sport Edition. All others had the flat kind I think.

    From the 2008 brochure.
