JBL Settings

I heard about how disappointing the 15 speaker system in and it is really not all that great. I’m trying different settings to make it sound more “full”.

I mostly listen to metal if I’m solo in the car or Taylor Swift (on loop) if she wife is with me.

anyone go pointers on best ways to dial in the sound as much as possible?

 

JBL comes in the Pro and Limited model. You have the regular audio system, as do I. Settings will be dependent on the individual. I myself have bass on 5, mid on 7 and treble on 9.

That seems to be the sweet spot in my 2023 ORP to avoid crackling. Cannot wait for the day that I upgrade the entire audio system. I did have a loaner that had the JBL and it was much better, but nothing that impressive.

 

Ah I stand corrected! It is a “premium” system but not the JBL. Thank you for the correction. I thought I hadn’t seen the little JBL emblem on the speakers and thought it was odd they could not be found

 

If you are utilising your phone for streaming music you can enhance the sound quality even more by adjusting the audio settings on your phone as well.

It will still be crappy, but a better crappy. lol

I ended up upgrading my whole system. The key in audio quality is the head unit, that makes the most difference.

 

The good news is the regular audio system is easy and cheap to upgrade compared to upgrading systems such as JBL. This is the speaker kit I am about to buy, and have heard great things about.

If you do not plan on adding a sub and amp, or replacing the head unit I would recommend a small amp such as the Kicker Key which will provide them with more power and get the most out of them.

When I had my 4Runner ORP I was thinking to upgrade my audio to OEM Audio+ Reference500. The installation cost was just $400 in 2020 from their affiliated shop near me in Denver CO. Since this system is pretty much plug and play to the 4Runner and look OEM I wanted to go that route.

 

A local audio company is an affiliated shop for OEM Audio and had a 4Runner on display at a show & shine. I was not very impressed with their system, especially considering the price. They quoted almost $3,000 CAD, which I could do the Kicker kit with a 12" JBL Stealthbox for less. OEM Audio would not be a bad option if paying US prices. The audio quality was very nice but was lacking depth and bass. Just my personal opinion.

 

I have the dual system and I would like more bass. However I think people forget this is a full plug and play system for the price so it will always cost more than something you can put together.

 

For the love of God, music and all things right. Get a good head unit if you want it to sound better, going down the modded stock head unit road is a terrible idea and only ends in disappointment and frustration.

 

I agree completely on the quality and simplicity. I am however one that would rather build my own package.

 

Unless there was a quick, easy and cheap solutions for what I need (like let’s say skid plates or body armor) I would just fix it a call it a day.

but modify the car with new head unit and stuff is a bridge too far. I’ll live with the current way the car sounds, it’s not too awful lol,I’ll just wait for the speakers to crap out (if that ever happens) and replace the whole lot then.
