I'm looking to purchase one out of state and I asked them to send me some photos of weld seams underneath… And it looks like it's all been either painted over or perhaps rust proofed? What do you think?

The main concern, I just want to be sure they didn't just slap some paint over severe rust. It looks pretty good from what I can see but I'm no pro.

DO NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT

Most of the undercoatings I’ve seen on here…fluid film, woolwax, or even rustoleum-undercarriage, have more of a satin sheen
    (Or even gloss)

Looks like they painted over some surface rust. Those seems look really good and I see no real rust issues.

Exhaust has been re-worked. Not sure about the under coat/paint.

If it was hiding rust I would be bumpy all over.

    I think its fine.

Those welds on the exhaust though.....

Looks like surface rust but poke at it.

Instead of sanding they could of used something like ospho to stop the process then painted. As long as the rust wasn't major I would say its ok to do.

I do it for my boat trailer. Some places you just can't get the grinder in there to sand. I shoot it with Ospho then paint.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I noticed that too. I bet the owner had his cat stolen and he decided to DIY it back together? Those welds are not from a professional.

That's exactly what I meant when I posted "Exhaust has been re-worked" I was trying to be nice to the obvious amateur welding ( Which I am too, all though I have laid better beads, but still amateur)

Thinking more on this... just ask outright why the frame is black , but be generic in your question, don't give him the answer by asking "is it undercoating" or "is it paint"... see what he says and have your Spidey senses on alert for the answer. Doesn't mean he won't lie through his teeth... BUT, when you get there you can test his answer.
