well either way i am holding out for the hybrid 4runner. we are still debating on down sizing from our 23 tundra platinum non HV to a limited tacoma HV. waiting for final specs on tacoma HV limited to come out.

i imagine the T4R will have the same setup as the tacoma HV with the optional i-Force Max version with up to 326 hp and 465 lb-ft vs the non hv 278 hp and 317 lb-ft

Just to put a bow on this thread, I wanted to go back and check the original post from 2021 to see how accurate the predictions were:

    Predicted: 2024 release - check!

Predicted - Special hybrid motor development - check! (I-Force Max)

    Predicted: 2.4L Turbo - check!

Predicted: Motor/trans optimized for high torque at low rpms - check!

Predicted - First scheduled to be built in Guanajuato - miss, but it was noted that production could also take place in Tahara

Further in this thread, the GX's boxier styling was predicted as was the re-introduction of the Land Cruiser to the US market.

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to Carmaker1 for all the fantastic early information shared despite all the naysayers. Also a big thank you to posters like @TexasFunRunner, @GFORCE and others who provided meaningful supplemental info along the way. I apologize to those whose names I'm forgetting but this thread got a lot bigger than I ever anticipated.

Funny how we couldn't stop talking about 6th gen.

Then it was announced and now nobody wants to talk about the new Taco with an SUV cover.

    Because it’s underwhelming af.

it’s the GM strategy from the 90s - S10 pickups and Jimmy SUVs. Big fking yawn

Or maybe like the Toyota strategy from the 80's with the Hilux/Pickup and 4Runner/Hilux Surf.

Ennui has set in while we wait out the launch delay and lack of new info/updates/marketing/ads.

What will be interesting is if these engine trouble rumors become a reality for Land Cruiser.

That combined with the rumors that 5th gen production is winding down to a trickle.

If both those become true then we may have no 2025 4Runner at all.

    Interesting times.

This strategy by itself is not a bad thing, In fact, all things equal, I’d prefer parts commonalities among the pick up and SUV versions, especially in regard to finding parts in the middle of a long trip, or as they age.

But the big concern is over flaws that will be shared across the different models on the platform.

Is is time to bring up the fact that the 4Runner started out as a Toyota pickup with a shell again, or is it still too soon?

The 5th gen 4R and 3rd gen Taco were probably the least alike, but the rest were extremely similar (and those two are quite similar as well, just different engine / transmission).

Legend has it the very first 4runner was made by Winnebago (RVs), after a dealer in Wisconsin asked them to gussy up a Toyota pickup. The rest was history.

you are probably thinking of the winnebago toyota camper called the chinook and the trekker which was a modified hilux by winnebago. they were conversions by of a hilux surf into a trekker by winnebago per a dealer from 1981 to 1983 since the fj40 was discontinued

    its semantics really

but toyota started production on the 4runner in oct-1983 so the trekker had to be discontinued from what i can tell

but reality was the 4unner was based to compete vs the bronco and blazer back then

When paired with the Sasquatch setup, the Free Wheeling package includes 17-inch alloy wheels versus the standard steelies, which are fitted to models without the off-road-focused upgrade.

Ford hasn't yet announced pricing for the 2025 Bronco lineup. While we don't know how much the Free Wheeling package will cost, we expect the Big Bend trim to start around $42K. Pricing will be announced at a later date, with the Free Wheeling-equipped Bronco available in January.

Because I am an old F... (fart, whatever...) I remember the early 80s with the Toyota with a massive camper on the back. At the time, I had a 79 HiLux with a 20R engine that was a fantastic truck. It was my dirtbike hauler. Fantastically reliable truck which was the reason I buy Toyotas recently. (Not now though...) The Winnebago on the back of a small Toyota pickup looked like an accident looking for a place to happen due to obvious weight and balance issues.
