Hi! I’m new here, but not new to 4Runners. I just got a 2024 TRD ORP and hope it will last and be as bullet-proof as my 2000 SR5 that I sold a couple years ago with over 220K miles. This new one has a good, comfortable feel to it - some new stuff and some of the old familiar stuff from my 2000. And it is beautiful!!!

I’d like to get your input on this: I was tired by the time i got to the finance manager at the dealer and I ended up buying the extended warranty and service. I’m considering cancelling both but would like to hear what you all think. Thanks in advance!

    Welcome!

What'd you pay for the ext warranty? There's a guy (salesperson) that is well known on this site and TacomaWorld in the KC Region (I think?) who offers really great deals on ext warranty's. I think he even offers the 7yr/150k mile option. Someone on here can give you the dude's info, if you're interested.

Welcome from Houston! I have no doubt it will be just as bulletproof. These 4L V6s are no strangers to high mileage like 200, 300, 400k+! The 5th gen may prove to be the last great Toyota that will take care of you as long as you take care of it. I hope I'm wrong about that...but either way I'm happy with my 4th and 5th gens.

As far as the extended warranty goes...dealerships sell those at very high markups. Shop around for a reputable one you can buy yourself, and if you find one that's a significantly better deal, cancel the one from the dealer.

Welcome from Wisconsin! CANCEL both, get your money back, do the service work on your vehicle yourself.. if you're able. One of the best ways to "get to know" vehicle is to work on it, oil changes, greasing, cleaning, windshield wipers etc. You'll appreciate your vehicle more. As far as the extended warranty, it's kind of a roll of the dice as if something major happens to your vehicle, trans., engine, or something major, but given the track record of the 4Runner, I bet more people have had continued longevity than people that have been plagued with problems, like I said, kind of a gamble on the ext. warranty. It's your call, only my opinion.

I didn’t know you could buy them from another dealer. I found one name on this site by searching around (Jerry Johnson in Kansas). Is that the guy? I paid $2850 for a 7/100K warranty. I know things have changed a lot, but I never paid that much in repairs the first 7 years of my 2000. It wasn’t until the >200K miles that the big expenses started. Thank you for your reply.

Cancel both, put that money in a ROTH IRA. You can do the basic diy stuff. By 2024 the T4R has evolved into extremely reliable vehicle. Welcome to the forum!

Yup, that's the guy. You can buy from another dealer/salesman. You also have up to one year from the time you buy your 4Runner (if it's new), to buy the extended warranty. You don't have to buy it the same day.
