Why would you want to do that? To save money? It's annoying, but if it did not do that, would you be pissed if you had an oil related engine failure? It may never happen, I hope it doesn't, synthetic or not, use should also be a factor in oil changes. Think we'll stick with 5K. I forgot to mention... Welcome from Wisconsin!

I'll probably get flamed for supporting this, but it's a reality. Even the top of the line synthetic, not changing every 5k (IMHO) is just being lazy and trying to push boundaries. DIY oil change is probably $35 with oil and filter and max an hour of your time. Get off the f*ing couch.

As someone who once did 30k a year anything over 5k oil changes was a god send, and 8-10k was perfect. $80+ oil changes 6+ times a year at the dealer or do it myself and deal with the skid plate removal and the multi part filter, no thanks. Also doing winter oil changes yourself blows.

But now that i do only 12k a year or so i do them every 6k. The 5k reminder is perfect.

I have not seen an oil change reminder on my 2020 since I have bought it new. I didn't see at 5000 miles or 10000 miles (just reached it a week ago). Maybe because I change the oil at the dealership annually and they must reset it for me.

Yes, and it resets 5,000 miles from the last reset, whenever that may be.

Dealer changed the oil in mine. About three days later the reminder came on at about 4500 miles.

They must have forgotten to reset it.

Feel you brother... NY winter and no garage either... layers of cardboard help a little, still cold AF.

Toyota care will be new to me, and possibly doubtful I will use it unless we are dead smack in winter.

There is a Yootoober 'Jason Explains Things' that did a video about how every time he used Toyot stealership they over-torqued everything and he couldnt for the life of him get the filter off or his drain plug off etc.

Of course YMMV, I'm not poo pooing all certified mechanics and I understand some of these dealerships run a practical sweat shop with the amount of jobs they give in a day.

    For more recent vehicles:

    1. Toggle the trip meter until it shows Trip A and shut off the engine
    2. While pressing the display change button, use engine switch (or push button) to the Ignition On mode (don't start the engine).
    3. Continue to press and hold the button until the display reads all zeros.

(According to the manual, this procedure is for USA only. I don't know what the procedure is for other vehicles).

Older vehicles use keys that can be turned to different positions. Newer ones have push-button start. Examining the device used to start the vehicle will indicate to most users which procedure applies.

So? Most people seem able to cope with it.

Since you asked, they're different. I'm not sure there is more than that; although, if I thought more about it I could probably come up with something.

Well here's another different answer: RTFM (it's in the manual).

If you can figure out an online message board, you can reset the maintenance light.

Do you know what page? I know it has a lot of pictures, but it's still a pretty big book.

    If you're being funny:
Just try flipping to random pages until you find it. I know nobody reads books nowadays (or knows how to use a TOC or index), so you'll just have to muscle through it.

If you're serious and can't logically navigate a book(or for anyone else who wants a less retarded way of searching):
You can download a PDF copy of the manual from Toyota and ctrl-F your way through it. You still have to be smart enough to type your search keywords correctly, though.
