    Between 30 and about 65, there is a whirring noise. At first I thought it was the tires, but I just got new ones and still making that noise. They are balanced and alignment is good.

    Then I thought maybe it was the gear shifting.

    30mph = RPM about 1.3
    60mph = RPM about 1.8

    Which seems fine. Shifting feels ok when accelerating. Temp gauge is good. The noise only started happening recently. Any ideas?

    I've got stock roof rack and no extras in front.

    Mine makes all kinda noises but it has 284k miles and unless I get a check engine light or it craps out it’s part of the experience.:hattip:

    Next time you hear the sound, shift into 4H and see if it goes away.

    Does it rise in pitch with acceleration? If so, it could be what the Car Care Nut calls "airplane noise" (he said it sounds like a jet engine spinning up to power). If that's it, he says Toyota transmissions just make that noise and it's nothing to worry about. Here's a short video I made of my truck when I was researching that noise.

    That is what it sounds like. A jet on the taxiway kind of wind up.

    Weird I've never noticed it like this before. Maybe because all my rubber seals are wearing out.

    Thx.
