What is the tiny slot that looks like a USB slot on the gear shift panel

 

Interlock bypass to shift out of park in case you have an issue with interlock solenoid or the brake light switch.

 

Shift lock release if you have loss of power.

I believe it is law in the United States that with the key on, (ignition on) that for the shift lock to be released, the brake has to be depressed. The solenoid would be energized through the brake switch.
I believe this is a safety feature to keep younger children from moving the shift lever out of park. When I was little (r) it was "fun" to be in the driver seat and pretend to be driving and play with the controls. There were some tragic incidents where a car on a hill or not level driveway to roll out into the street with a child at the controls.
