I paid 2200. And the katzkin comment is that I looked at the quality and finish of that set and didn't like it. I just didn't want to cover the old material so decided to up with the leather and threw in the red stitching. Nothing crazy, I don't think.

Katzkin isn't an "over the top" style of seat cover, it's complete replacement of the upholstery.

True. It is complete replacement but pre-made to the measurements of the seats. And the sets I saw at the installer didn't fit properly (some gaps). What I choose was more custom and not mass produce as this is what Katzkin does, and the material is also different. Anyway, that was just my preference.

Top notch product but I do prefer the American made kits vs the kits produced overseas.

More custom in what way? Katzkin offers that exact same style of diamond quilt stitching that you got.

@Remedy6 do you prefer the kits or full custom? Is there an advantage way or the other? Also, thanks for sharing all your expertise!

First, let me clarify some of the lingo that I use to eliminate any confusion. To me, a kit is something that I can purchase already made up. Custom refers to something that we actually sew up in house.

The big advantage to a kit is the price. Your options are obviously limited by what's available through the manufacturer (although katzkin in particular has quite a few options) but you're getting so much more for your money at the end of the day.

Full custom seats aren't cheap no matter what but you're only limited by what the shop that you're working with is willing to do. If you've ever been to a high end car show you'll have seen some incredible looking interiors that took hundreds of hours to make and cost someone a significant amount of money.

In an attempt to answer your question I'll say that my personal 4Runner is getting a mix of the two options. I'll be using a katzkin kit that we're going to customize in house. I'm also doing the door panels and a part of the dash to match the seats.
