Does anybody know if ORPs are shipped with the same cheap wheels as say a PRO to the USA.

I remember reading Pros are shipped with cheap wheels to the USA then get the all Black Pro wheels.

Is the Off Road premium shipped with standard alloy wheels on the ship? Or are those installed in Port?

I'm no expert on this, but I can't imagine the rest of the 4R models wouldn't ship with the wheels they have on the sales lot. I think the only reason Pros ship with steelies is they have to modify the wheel wells after installing the TRD Pro wheels, and each vehicle is slightly different as far as the adjustment(s) needed. The other models have no issue fitting their respective wheels.

    This is interesting.

I'm wondering now, if I bought a set of TRD Pro wheels for mine, I'd have some custom fitting to do?

Yeah I asked because trying to get one slated for pro wheels as port installed option. But I’d rather have the alloy wheels they normally come with standard. Plus I think the pro wheel option on a pro still gives you Dunlop’s and not an AT style tire. Hoping it can get changed

The pro wheels are put on at the port the trd off road wheels come like that from Japan

the stealership will sometimes put on pro wheels and tires (for way more than it would cost you to do it yourself)

if you ordered a pro and rather get the off road wheels I’m sure whatever stealership you buy it from will gladly swap them out for you

You're looking for the wheels I've got? Or am I misunderstanding?

I have am trying to get an orp dealer had coming. But when they ordered it they asked for the black red pro wheel $1,890 option. I am hoping they can remove that request before it gets to port. It’s to be built right now or recently built

No worries! I’m sitting down for patio campfire and an adult beverage myself.

Meanwhile, I’m considering a set of the Pro wheels (in gray) for mine and I’m mighty curious about this custom fitting business. (Not to hijack your thread, of course.)

No worries man. Yeah there are two kinds available of those as far as I know. Matte Gray (lighter shade with TRD center caps in red). Or there is gun metal gray (darker shade) with center caps saying TRD in black.

Is the Pro wheel overall larger in size versus the standard alloy wheel? Or is is just the tire just larger if they put the AT tire on.

I have seen ORPs with the black pro wheel option but with Dunlop’s and it just did not look right to me (no offense to those with it just personal choice)

I think it’s still a 17x7, but I don’t think the offset is the same. The Pro wheel, as best I can tell, brings about an inch more track width.

That extra width comes either from different offset or from tire width. What size tires come on the TRD Pro?

Local dealer just got in three 2024 ORP’s . They came with the black Pro wheels with Nitto Ridge Grapplers . Apparently they stopped using the Terra Grapplers . I gotta say they looked really good with those tires and wheels .

    Wow

Wow that surprises me are you in the SE of USA? I know they do it a bit differently on those XP packages down there. Up here when I’ve seen that option for $1,890 it was just the wheels with Dunlop’s or Bridgestones

Gotcha. I am guessing those units went through the Jacksonville FL center and got the XP package which would include the wheels and tires you referenced, predator bars, black emblem overlays and the heritage TOYOTA grill all on an off road premium.

To my knowledge the XP Package is only available to SE region dealers

Hey, man, I was wrong about both wheels being 17x7.

According to this article (https://trail4runner.com/2021/02/05/factory-5th-gen-4runner-wheel-options/), the TRD Off-Road Premium wheel is a 17x7.5, with a +15mm offset, while the TRD Pro wheel is a 17x7 with a +4mm offset. Both list a 4.5" backspace. Both styles are listed at 25 pounds, for what that's worth.

What does the offset mean? According to one piece I read, the Pro wheel offset "extends the overall vehicle track width by 0.9 inches."
I'm willing to admit that I don't know enough yet about offsets and backspaces to speak intelligently about them. So there's this article: https://wheelsasap.com/What-is-Wheel-Offset to help with that.

And now I'm wondering why the Pro wheel is a half-inch narrower than the Premium wheel.

    Thanks Vthoky

Wow I will have to take a read through this. I have to admit I don’t understand much of that either. I will have to read when I am not as tired.

My biggest concern I guess is if they change it out from the standard orp wheel can I never go back? Would the ports changes restrict me from changing wheels later? I am not going to be a big time off road guy here more less this will tow my small fishing boat and be used for recreation trips I hope well into retirement years. The most off road will be down some dirt roads and grass at boat ramps and camp grounds etc. My intent is this is for the very long haul.

I am thinking worse case I could swap the black trd wheel for a gun metal gray but I’d need to make sure those specs match what you have now. So much to think about. Hopefully it all gets changed back to the standard orp wheel before any changes. Then I’ll sleep better as that’s just my preference from looks perspective for sure and not as confusing

It's been that way since the Pro showed up. FYI, it's not a "Premium" wheel. It comes on all the Off Road models, premium or not.

The reason for the Pro wheel well adjustments are mostly due to the offset, to prevent any rubbing issues.

Both wheels come up for sale all the time. You'd have no problem swapping with someone.

Understood. I mistakenly mentioned it as "Premium" out of not thinking enough -- my ORP came with them, and that fact was stuck in my head. It didn't help me that they're listed that way in the article I mentioned, too.

I'm still unsure about the topic of modifying each unit at the port when Pro wheels get installed. Is that for real? As a manufacturing guy, it's tough for me to imagine the variables involved in that. It's also tough to figure something so mass-produced (both the vehicles and the wheels) would have to be custom-fitted.

Mac1usa, are you anywhere near VA?

Yes, it's for real. It's just one of several things that are done at port instead of at the factory or the dealer. If you look at the configurator, you can see which other items that pertains to.

Thank you. I wonder what's involved in that process, because I'm mighty tempted to get the Pro wheels for mine. I'd hate to do that and then not know what needs to be customized in order for them to fit right.

Lol not custom fitted. They trim a corner of the plastic bumper cover with a paper template, using a SST numbered tool to avoid paint damage. Considering the degree of modification they do at port (Pro shocks, roof rack, replacement grille), this is trivial.

Do you know which ones you'll be getting? The old style "TRD SEMA" wheels or the new style? Toyota had shortages of the center caps of the new style starting about a year ago.
