94 4 runner - replace rear window tailgate with 3 gen

I do not like the tailgate window in the 94. Can I replace it with an after market that lifts up vs rolling down into the tailgate?

What is wrong with the one you got? It should roll up and down into the tailgate. That is the way it was designed.

 

It’s a pain in the ass to need the key to roll down the window when loading groceries or camping gear or kayaking paddles or anything in the back

 

No you can't change it. I love the roll down window. one quarter the way down and side window open provides excellent airflow. You will have to buy yourself a 3rd gen to get what you want.

 

...and how does a 3rd gen get him what he wants? The rear window always rolls down into the tailgate. Don't literally ALL 4Runners do this? Isn't it their signature feature?

He literally will have to get another SUV.

I hear Jeeps are nice.

 

He wants it to have a hatch which is what the 3rd has. If I understand him right, he wants to be able to open the hatch without rolling down the window.

 

What hatch? I'm confused.

My 3rd gen has no hatch.

It has a tailgate that lifts up.

It has a rear window in the tailgate that goes down.

 

Or are we taking about the same thing? Hatch = tailgate?

So 2nd gen has no tailgate?

 

Oh. I see now. It's got a half tailgate. Bummer.
