Do you regret "settling" for an SR5? (softex vs aftermarket like Clazzio)

I bought the SR5P knowing full well about this issue, and you are correct. It is horrible. That was my only complaint about the SR5P. A set of Bilstein 5100's and a competent shop fixed all of that. The price of the shocks was far less than a move up to the ORP. That was part of the plan. The ORP comes with stuff I personally will never use. As silly as it sounds, having a place to put my sunglasses in the overhead console is nice to have. I use it all the time. The ORP has other gizmos up there. If I want to take my daily driver across Moab I can beef it up all day long and do that. I do prefer the Softex over cloth and perhaps even real leather. It is so easy to clean and maintain.

You can't go wrong with a 5th gen of any flavor. My heirs will have to figure out what to do with it when I'm gone.

I was extremely lucky to find a 2023 SR5P in the classic Silver!!
It came with the LED headlights/fogs, blind spot monitoring, heated seats/steering wheel, sun roof and to top it off..TRD package with black TRD wheels, black lettering and the trunk slider.

Technically speaking it doesn't lock. The computer detects which rear wheel is spinning and will apply the brake to that wheel thereby putting the power to the tire with the most traction which would otherwise not spin. Look up "Auto LSD."

    Toyota calls it "Auto LSD."

Yep, I did. Just chuckling at all the people that want to insist otherwise, and wondering what all the consternation is about.

Nice setup... I'm a fisherman as well... what suspension setup did you go with to fit 285 KO3s (did you have to do any BMC? )

That pic is from Pismo Beach. I took my older son (13yo) for an overnight a few weeks back. Have been doing a lot of fishing with him lately.

Bilsteins (51??/6??? combo). +2" at front, + 1" at rear. Kept soft springs as I installed airbags for towing to prevent sag and still keep the nice ride quality when not packed down.

Moved the fender liner forward a bit. Trimmed the lower front of the fender about 1/2". Did not need to cut the body mount.

Nice to see the discussion still I going here. I ended up getting the sr5. I put Clazzio seats on and am very happy I didn’t hold out for an sr5p and pay a ton extra mainly just for softex. It still has all the other features I wanted minus heated steering and seats but I can live without that.

I bought a 2024 SR5 a couple of months ago and are completely happy with it. I don't need a sunroof or 3rd row seating. The 2024 SR5 is light years ahead of my old 06 Tacoma TRD Off Road

Every vehicle I have ever owned with a sunroof has leaked right around the 10 year mark and I'm a stickler about maintenance.. I could not for the life of me find an SR5P without a sun\moon roof. I only wanted the side mirror vehicle alert and signal... alas, I settled for the SR5.

3rd row seating for eight hunge and change was a no brainer... you know..for da harem of ladies..LOL

Solid OTD price...I had to sell my soul to the devil to get even near that OTD in NY. May I ask... did they force any Port Installed Options on you..or you were able to get them all pulled off to drive down the price?

Yes, all the 4Rs come with traction aids, but an SR5 still doesn't have a rear locker.

According to my friend she was shifting to 2H but it went towards right resulting going into 4L. Engine rev'ed like mad and Christmas lights on dash. After a battery unplugged and back all seems normal.

Had a Rav4 with Softex. It's not that great-it's just better than cloth. It's like a cheap vinyl. A leather cover would be much better.

I don't regret a thing but I do have to intentionally park with the sun on my side everywhere we go. Softex in the Phoenix sun gets toasty and my wife lives in short dresses 9 months of the year.

Now that Bartact has finally released their 4Runner covers, gonna pick up a set. They were great in my Jeep.

You know, I've seen this comment a handful of times now and I'm a little puzzled. I have a base SR5, and it has no sunroof, but does have the side mirror vehicle (blind spot) sensors and the alert lamps in the side mirrors. Mine also has the 3rd row seating, which my grandkids LOVE. I haven't found anything I needed from the SR5P so I'm happy with my purchase. Added a few things, like running boards and the blackout badging, as well as the wind deflectors. But then, I'm a cloth seat fan. :)

I don't recall reading a single post where someone badmouthed an SR5 owner... Methinks he doth protest too much. In his opinion, everyone who doesn't own an SR5 is an unwise, superficial yuppy.

Being a dog owner who drives in dusty areas, I won't own another vehicle with cloth seats, and the lack of a locker and a push-button 4WD instead of a shift lever made the SR5 a non-starter for me. Of course, I think the trim level badges look tacky on all 4Runners, so I removed mine quickly. So much for the showing off for appearances theory... I say buy which model and trim suits your fancy, then go out and enjoy it.

Well if trim level badging is tacky, why is it on your profile? Asking for a friend.

It tells which model of 4Runner I own so that people don't have to ask when we're discussing options. Why is SR5 on yours? Are you bragging about owning an SR5? Does someone with LTD mean they're bragging? Not to mention I don't drive around with my 4Runners.com profile slapped to the side of my truck...I'm not following your logic...

    I am. I like my SR5.

Perhaps the issue isn't what people are bragging about on here. It's more about what people gratuitously point out might be "missing" from various trim levels. It seems important to some, for example, to point out that locking differentials are not offered on the SR5 models. Where did that come from? And who cares? We all have different needs and wants for a vehicle. Some are more capable in some situations than others. That goes for people as well as vehicles. I don't get all the comparisons.

The only reason I posted about the locker not being on an SR5 is another member stated that their SR5 came with a 'electronically activated rear locker'. That's where that came from.

I don't give a flying flip what model anyone on this forum drives, what equipment they add to them, and don't see any reason to call anyone out for having a different trim 4R than I have.

It seems you're taking it personally that people discuss different options and needs. As you said, we all have different needs. Does someone who goes off-roading and wants a locking differential imply in some way to you that they are "looking down" on you or your vehicle for not having or needing one? That's your mindset I'm not following. I'd say that the easy answer to "who cares" is someone who wants a locking differential, but call me crazy. Also, how is it "gratuitously" pointing out what a trim is lacking when a person has articulable reasons for wanting those options?
