Do you regret "settling" for an SR5? (softex vs aftermarket like Clazzio)

Dang, yeah, that’s intense. Good question about the functionality of it. I don’t know if it would apply the brakes for longer intervals if necessary. I suspect you’re right that it is probably for short increments and it would just end up pulsating and confusing the A-TRAC.

I'm another SR5 owner with zero regrets.

I have WetOkole seat covers and have never missed having heated seats and I live in Michigan. The neoprene doesn't feel cold to me ever and it does start warming you up almost instantly.

Mine is silver and I like that it looks good even when a little dirty. My 4R sees dirt often and I have no desire to try to keep it perfectly clean especially since it takes 3-4 times longer to wash than my Miata (4R's are not jelly beans, they are boxes with lots of creases).

I love that about the classic silver. If you get within two feet of mine right now it's like "damn dude, you need to wash that thing!" Stand six feet back and it looks like I just washed it! Silver also hides the desert pinstriping better than any other color.

FWIW, I really like my SR5 with the few add-ons I've added. I use mine mostly around my home, which is to say mostly an asphalt. I tow a trailer with dual sports to a couple different mountain cabins I have access to, and these trips involve gravel, dirt, and fire roads. I guess not technically "off road", but off paved roads. I got what I wanted in a 4Runner. I appreciate other folks do serious off roading, adventure camping, and other more specialized use. I like seeing pictures of their builds, and reading about their adventures. I'm just not there.

And the exterior is still the easy part compared to trying to clean the interior if you've ever driven on a dirt or gravel road with the rear window down.

I’ve got a 2021 TRD OR. I don’t miss the extra cost features of the TRD ORP which has essentially the same upgrades over the TRD OR as the SR5 Premium has over the SR5.

I don’t miss the Softex seats as my black cloth is comfortable and meets my needs. I don’t need push button start as I’ve never had it before and feel better inserting a traditional key. Dual zone HVAC in a cabin as small as a 4Runner is worthless in my opinion so don’t need that either. With the $ saved on the trim level, I upgraded the suspension, added skids and sliders, a hybrid bumper a winch and a few other goodies…

That said, everyone needs to do what they like. Having choices is good!

    Cheers,
    Bob

Sr5 if your not going to hang on to it very long
Sr5p if you plan on owning till the wheels fall off
    Good luck with your decision
Ps... the wheels on these things don't fall off

SR5 will last just as long as any other trim level.

So here's my base SR5. It's a 2023, just got it about seven weeks ago. I love it. Put the blackout overlays on the badging, bought and installed Husky mats and running boards (OEM black), WeatherTech wind deflectors for the windows, and got a wireless adapter for ApplePlay for it. It has everything I need now. I used to have Tundras for the last 17 years, and they were all SR5's too.

It really just depends how much of the additional bells and whistles you feel you can't live without. The only thing that would've made me get a SR5P was the sunroof, but I decided I'd never had one before and didn't really need one now. My wife never uses hers on her Rav4. All in all I'm really happy with my purchase.

I agree. I have a 2023 SR5 with no factory options whatsoever. Not one. And yet, somehow I have air conditioning, power windows and door locks, a stereo, a rear defroster and even a rear wiper! I have a rear window that goes up and down and I have an automatic transmission. I have fog lights! I have LED high and low beams! I have alloy wheels! I have a towing package, mud flaps, a roof rack and an electronically locking rear differential! What's going on here? This thing is loaded! It even has a passenger side rear view mirror! Very cool.

I had plenty of 4Runners to choose from when I bought this one and I couldn't justify spending thousands of dollars for a bunch of stuff that doesn't matter. Headed seats or steering wheel? LMAO. Spent many years in the arctic and never need that stuff. Love my SR5. Paid about $38,500 plus the room. LOL.

You know, I **loved** the idea of finally having a truck with a retractable rear window. I decided to open it (and all the other windows so I didn't create a vacuum) on my way home from work one warm May day and noticed a fine layer of dust/dirt ALL over the entire inside of my 3 day old 4Runner. Not sure I'm still a fan after that. Maybe one day when it's 10 years old and I've stopped caring quite as much, but not now while its still new. This is when I found out that using a small handheld Swiffer worked pretty damn well for dusting the inside of one's rig.

Even if it's not totally wonderful on the go, having the window down (with some bug netting) is great for camping out in back.

I bought mine used. I sacrificed color for SR5 Prem. It had everything else I wanted, so I’m happy with that decision.

Leather seats in summer are cruel and heated seats just give me an itchy toosh. Never had a heated steering wheel... I just sit on my hands while I drive to warm them up

You must have gotten the only SR5 ever made with a locking rear differential, then.

On paper I thought I wanted the OR/ORP/Pro gizmos and trim options.

But a nice Trail (SR5 with blackout trim and a roof basket) became available and I grabbed it.

No regrets after having taken it up mountains, OHV parks, deserts, water crossings, beach camping, trailering, etc. Don't forget DD duty and grocery getting!

    Reasons:
    • I changed out suspension anyway, so didn't need to throw away expensive KDSS or pro gear
    • It's hot as hell where I live and travel, cloth seats for the win
    • Have taught myself to never play all my cards on the first hand . . . good tires, careful foot, then 4-high, maybe 4-low, maybe A-TRAC. If that doesn't cover it I'm probably screwed anyway.
    • I like the wheels better than the pro wheels. The 285 KO3s fit just perfect.
    • Pro rack is not for me. Just bought nice cross bars for the stock SR5 rails and I'm good
    • In my book, simplicity increases reliability and decreases cost
Things I'd love to have, but oh well . . .
    • seat and mirror memory settings (my wife and I share the car)
    • butt heat in the front seats
    • mirror indicators for approaching/passing vehicles
    • heated mirrors (we go to the snow here and there)

No, it is not. And the SR5 (and the SR5P) has neither.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
We didn’t ‘need’ a ORP but we wanted it along with the available TRD colors(wife) and KDSS(me).
We are an older retired couple, common sense would’ve dictated a Limited or SR5P……dementia can be a wonderful thing sometimes.

I'm kind of the oddball I think, because I feel like I 'settled' for an TRD ORP. :bananadead: (I know, real first world problems here ..LOLOL)

I wanted a SR5P with the peanut butter Softex interior, and black exterior. THATS what I was dead-ass set on, found the exact one I wanted, went and looked at it at the Dealer, but the TRD ORP was Cheaper (imagine that) at the time because the Dealer was giving money off TRD ORP's but not the SR5P's. And since the SR5P was a nicely loaded example, it was MORE than the TRD ORP after that promotion. Of course the TRD ORP is nicely loaded too. I think it has every option except the KDSS, which is hard to find here in Mi anyways.

Bought my MGM 23 TRD ORP in Oct 2023, and keep having to ignore the boring grey Softex seats and good looking (but boring) MGM exterior. ((Ducks under table)) :D

Sr5 drives terrible. Body lean and nose dives. So bad in the mountain twisties here that I was traumatized. When buying new last year.. didn’t even touch and sr5.. test drive a kdss model and that sealed the deal for me.
