I'm building out a leveler and storage area plus sliding work top and came across this thing in the middle of the cargo area. It doesn't connect to anything at the termination point. Is this related to the optimal 3rd row or something? I want to relocate it before I put down dampening material.

Maybe for the 3rd row seat belt sensors?

Limited? Could be for the key fob.

It is a 2023 Limited Edition. I'll go unplug it and test my fob.

    Update...not related to the fob.

    Fuel gauge sender?

Seems in the vicinity of the fuel tank underneath.

I'm not entirely sure what a sender is but it isn't mounted permanently to the floor.

Funny, I have the entire rear 2/3 of the interior torn out of my 4Runner currently and saw that also. I just assumed that it was for the fuel gauge sender.

It is funny, other than the lumber in the pic this could easily be a pic of the inside of my truck currently. Same color and the dampener (such as it is) is even in the same spots.

Fuel gauge on the dash gets a signal from a sensor mounted in the fuel tank indicating fill level. This is commonly referred to as a "sender". Instrumentation of various sorts has long been looked at (rightly or wrongly) as having a sender (the thing that takes the measurement) and a gauge (the thing that shows the measurement).

Fuel sender is often a floating device on a lever or column. As it rises or falls the amount of electrical resistance it offers (lever arm or column has a coil type potentiometer) changes. The gauge interprets the voltage that passes the sender in positioning the needle.

More than you ever wanted to know about that? ;-0

Perfect amount of explanation!.. I'm not sure it is a sender though. I dug around and it looks like the 4runner sender is wired. I found this video of a 5th Gen and this wire assembly isn't even there. Scratching my head.

What is your project? I'll have extra dampener in about a week if you need my cast offs.

Does the TMPS monitor the spare? My display only shows the 4 wheels on the ground and only operates wheen the wheels are spinning.

I bet you guys are right. I'll unplug it and see if it fails on the 5th wheel. Assuming that's the case I'll lay dampening material under it to see if it still works as well.

    It's a long list...
Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble, but you all are incorrect. It’s the luggage compartment antenna for the smart key system (1 of 3 for the interior). You have one in the center console, one under the rear seat, and one under the cargo area carpet.

Cool, wonder if the system is set up so the engine can't be started if the fob is in the cargo area?

yes it’s a setting in tech stream to have the “ignition area” for key detection set as all the interior or just up front.

I was under the impression there is no TPS in the spare. I know my 2011 and my 2022 doesn’t have it.
