Thanks! Yeah, I've got great credit and am planning on a big down payment. My rate on the used car loan is 6% from USAA.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
Welcome. As long as you're in the 800's, you'll get Toyota's rate. Back in Sept 23' when I financed mine, they best rate that ANYONE was offering was Toyota @ 6.28% for 48 months. I put down a huge down payment, so my payments are small. Well, small compared to most!

Some credit unions and banks will rate match. Don't be afraid to ask.

exactly! Sometimes its better to add more cash and get a new one. I did that with my 2022 TSE. I got a new car with 0 miles on it for the same as a used one with 30k+ from the local dealerships

Go new and get the 4.99% finance deal. Used prices are too high…get 2024, the last year and wear a big smile. Pic your color and it’s a keeper with zero second guesses.

NJ doesn't get as many 4Rs per capita as other states, so the OP is at a geographic disadvantage. To make matters worse, he's looking at vehicles from a time frame when new 4Rs were selling here above MSRP. People aren't willing to let them go cheap and are holding on to them longer. A wider search area would help, especially one that includes PA.

why do you need an ORP for beach fishing and around town is better question, no? What are you gaining with an ORP? An SR5 with only 35k miles gonna last a long time for ya and give you all you need. And you can add mods as you please. Also, they make great aftermarket seat covers. My son has some on his Tacoma and they’re nicer than my softex.

You may well have talked me out of it.

I definitely don't need an ORP for the beach - but it seemed like the only 2020+ I could get in the low 30s at the time. Now I'm second guessing. I'll probably call it off tomorrow after sleeping on it.

It sounds like an SR5P would be perfect if you can find one. It’s got softex seats which is great if you’re going to the beach. And ATRAC is very good should you need to get on the sand.

Hard pass. You’re talking about spending $35K on a vehicle that is quickly approaching 100k miles.

I’m also in NJ by the way. Spend a bit more and buy a new one. Or offer the dealer far less money on this one, and be prepared to walk.

Sounds like your emotions are talking you into a bad deal, and that’s exactly what the dealer wants.

I'm in the "find a new one" camp if it won't put you in a bind. There are simply no worries with a new one. You know exactly what you are getting. This also expands your search area if you have the time to go get it. Take a one way flight. Any dealership worth doing business with will pick you up at the airport. I've done this a couple of times. It is still summer, nice weather to drive it back. Take a couple of days off and enjoy the new ride. SR5P is plenty. If you suddenly want to go rock crawling in Utah you can still upgrade it beyond belief. Don't sweat the interest rate too much. You can always refinance later.

If it were me, I would go new all over again. Brand new, unmolested 5th Gen's are going away quickly. Don't pay over MSRP.

If you do decide to go that route, ask around here. There are still reputable Toyota dealerships out there. I can highly recommend one here in St. Louis. Determine your tolerable radius that you are willing to travel and go from there. Brand new vehicles are normally a bad idea. The 4Runner is an exception to that rule.

    Good luck!

There are plenty on Carmax, too. I bought mine there. They will deliver for small fee and you can walkaway if you don’t like it. Just saw several in the 35k price range with good mileage.

*my Only knock on Carmax is they don’t make it easy to pay on the principal. Have to call them to do so I think. They also don’t negotiate price. Is what it is.

just another vote for new. If you're gonna be driving on the beach, I'd want new and get some protective coating put on the frame.

OP, there are many better deals here where I'm located. Maybe they can get that price due to supply and demand where you're located. For me, I'd pass on that deal. It may be worth it to expand your search a bit further.

I am searching within a 500 mile radius and I'm not afraid of a road trip. The 4Runner in question on this thread is located in VA.

I found a 2020 SR5P about 250 miles away at a Chevy dealer. It's got 45k miles and they are asking $34k. Maybe this is the better deal.
