I intend to retire there, eventually. I visit Lee County every winter. It's my happy place.

I might have an idea that could help with that. If you stopped wearing your pants in the house all the time, perhaps your youngling would get the hint!

Of course, on the flip side: Maybe he likes hanging out with his dad!

Haha! I have thought about how walking around in my underwear might make him want to move sooner.

The good news is that he's talking about moving in with some friends. The bad news is that he's talking about moving to NY. I wanted him to move, but not so far. :angrygirl:

Yeah. My stepdaughter situation is a mixed blessing. She went off full of piss and vinegar and dug herself a hole but did manage to keep afloat for a couple of years. The school of hard knocks seems to have had a good effect on her and her attitude. And my wife is happy to know she is back safe.

You know, happy wife happy life. We are are probably looking at a 2 year stint but so far all signs are pointing in the right direction. Fingers crossed for that to continue.

This is pretty cool to see so many of our generation here.
Funny story from many years back:
I think I was pushing 50-ish but not quite.
We were on trail ride with most of our usual suspects but this one ended in little bitty town with a bar and live music and we were staying the night so everyone was getting lubricated. Some of the guys were getting into some shenanigans with another group that didn't appear to be the sharpest tools in the shed. At some point I mentioned that the guys might not want to get too tight with the other crew as their potential for misadventure struck me as pretty high.

One of my buddies says "well why didn't you say something sooner. You're the old guy here."
I was kind of surprised and looked around and no shit, I'm the old guy. It was kind of my first wake up call that I wasn't really "young" anymore. But I think I was more disturbed that this made me the "responsible one" by default.

60 here. Retired in 2020. Had big plans but unfortunately my wife became disabled 6 months later and I have become her caregiver ever since. And I agree with others that Fed BC/BS is the best.

Sorry to here about this but kudos to you for stepping up.

My wife had a big health scare a few years ago as well and it changed our outlook on all things retirement. It also was kind of my wake up call that you never know when a piano might fall out of the sky and on top of you. So we're making the most of every day.

She is doing well now but was left with a chronic condition that could potentially shorten her life. So she will retire in a couple of years at 62. In the meantime we are doing everything we can to optimize our health, saving $$ to supplement her insurance costs from 62 to 65, and writing down bucket list stuff we want to do. With luck and good attention to our health, her lifespan will be as long as anybody else's and we will have a blast for many years to come.

In our house, I'm the disabled one. I'm SLOWLY working my way back! In 2022 or 2023, we (I) had over $100,000 in cardiac care. Cost us slightly less than $2k thanks to Blue Cross and Medicare A. $60,000 for my second broken kneecap. Cost on that was about $800 (No ambulance on that-I drove myself) = that included physical therapy, wheelchair, etc. Yes: THANK THE LORD FOR MY FEDERAL INSURANCE WHEN I RETIRED!!!

I'm noticing an abundance of retired government here.

I haven't mentioned it, but me too.

Nursing 38 years at "The County" but we are in the AZ state retirement system so it's a good defined benefit pension.
I understand that the health coverage is quite good once you get to Medicare age but we shall see. For now we are on my wife's coverage (she is also at the hospital) and we take the option where we get care within our own system. We personally think it is great care and even better coverage. Her stay was likely a quarter million and we paid about $250 bucks. Wish we could keep it in retirement...

69 yrs young, retired Aug. 2020. Heart operation Sept. 2020. Prostrate cancer June 2023. Laser eye surgery tomorrow at 9:00am. Laying in the hospital room looking at the ceiling I thought about how fragile life is, we walk near the vail each day and never think a thing of it. I thought to myself, you’ve wanted a 4Runner for a long time now, but made excuses; too expensive, poor gas mileage, older technology. Then I said, time is running out for you dumb ass, better buy one now before the shows over, so I did! I still walk out in the garage to look at it and feel like I’m back in high school again! It’s such a cool vehicle!

We did tons of cataracts when I worked Post Anesthesia. Almost everyone that came in for their second one would tell us their only regret was waiting so long.
Just took my sister for her first one a couple weeks ago. Went well. She might not need the other one.

    Good on ya'. Enjoy it.
One of my co-workers encouraged me to get my 4runner. He told me how his dad finally got his dream sports car but gave it up shortly because it was too hard to get in and out of.

Funny how vehicles are one of the defining points in our generation's lifetimes.
I guess now it's their phone or something...

When I retired, I got my second FJ40. Too hard to work the shift (2x broken kneecap and 1x broken ankle on the left leg). No power steering and I broke right arm in 3 places about 7-8 years ago. So, I inherited the wife's 4Runner and got her a RAV4. Now she's retired and we don't need two cars, so we sold the RAV.

    Here's the FJ:

I'll be 72 in November. My '23 Limited is my first, and I love it. No radical mods planned, just appearance and comfort things. My son's been driving 4Runners for 15 years. Now I know why.

I still work everyday, but I did change jobs at 65 to slow things down. I can do it until they carry me out. No plans to retire, but I'm thinking about it. Oldest kid is 54, youngest is 43. My kids call me 'Walter,' so I guess I'm an old fart.

I still change my own oil and do minor maintenance. I rotated the tires a few months ago, and needed a lever to get them heavy sumbitches in position.
