    Regear has been a project I have debated since buying the truck. The cost of this is the main reason I put it off and was stuck in analysis paralysis if it would be worth it. I have completed my 500 mile break in and wanted to provide some feedback.

    Truck accelerates quicker as expected and takes less skinny pedal. Holds 5th gear and cruise control doesn't gear hunt. I am sure this won't be 100% fixed but it's greatly improved. RPM is 2600 at 75 which was the main trade off of this mod.

    Another nice change is I can increase speed with gradual throttle going uphill without dropping gear. This was not possible 3.73.

    I know this is a very subjective topic. Some people are fine with performance amd others are not. I suspect alot of it has to do with where you drive and how. I do a lot of interstate traveling and the gear hunting was killing me crosswinds or inclines.

    For reference my setup:

    2.5 " lift, low profile roof rack, RCI full aluminum skids, RSG sliders, low profile front and rear bumper, winch.

    I stayed on 265 measuring the performance impact on each mod. Now with the regear I can jump to 33 or 34 no problems. Everyone that I have talked to wished they had done this mod sooner.

    The upgrade I have not heard one person regret. Really improved the driveability.

    Depends on the question, but a 22.5% increase in torque is the objective answer ;) . If you don't need more torque, then it's not cost-effective, but for me, it would be great. Glad you like it. Enjoy the new-found power!

    A work in progress.....
    Re gearing MAY even improve MPG's. I did both my Cherokee and Wrangler and it made huge difference. My Wrangler struggled in the mountains with the stock 354 gears and was very happy with 411's.

    This may seem odd but I am hoping to run lower RPM after the regear. Often using 5th gear was not possible and I was in 4th screaming at high RPM. This was my realization might as well lower my gear ratio and hope to reclaim 5th as a useable gear.

    I stopped worrying about mpg in this rig. Wouldn't be driving or doing mods if fuel efficiency was my concern.

    You will run at higher RPM almost always (like driving in 4st all the time), but almost never drop to 4st on the highway. At any given speed, your RPM should be 22.5% higher than it was, since you'll be driving around town in 5rd, not 4st and your gear ratio is 22.5% lower.

    You increased your RPM the same as the percentage of increase in differential/axle gear ratio, which is 22.5%. The difference between 4st and 5rd is close to 28%. You should be able to run the same speed in 5rd as you did in 4st and roughly the same RPM, meaning it should almost never drop to 4st where it did in the past on the highway in the mountains.

    I understand that. I put 456 gears in my Mustang that had 5 speed and was only turning 3200 rpm in 5th at 70 mph. I loved those gears.

    I debated getting 4.56 or 4.88, The Rear End Shop I went to recommended I go with 4.88 since my rig is lifted with 34’s, armor, Gobi rack, steel bumper, winch, etc. Now I need the speedometer calibrated. My GPS app says I’m going 4-5 mph more than what the speedometer says when going 75-80mph. I’m averaging 11-12mpgs by hand calculations, so my MPGs could be a little off.
    Yes, one of the upgrades or mods that should have been done long ago.

    Is it possible to recalibrate the speedometer? On my g1 taco this could be done by replacing the speedometer gear. I didn't think on the g5 it could be recalibrated.

    It would have been a nice option from the factory, but the factory builds what they want to sell, not what buyers want to buy.

    They used to in the 90s, some came from factory with 4.56.

    We had a '93 HiLux ex/cab. I chose the 3.0L V-6, 4.56 and 31" tire package.
    Standard model was 4.11 and I4.

    Those were the days...
