Yes, functional until it rusts from exposed raw material. I would like to know how to fix that.

Wow, some of you guys are incredibly dense.

Help with spray paint does not require posting a full manifesto… lol get to the point.
Buy black paint. Spray it on

Again, dense. Especially if you think a simple forum post is a manifesto. I suppose it is for someone who clearly doesn’t read much.

This may come as a surprise, but there are actually multiple different types of paint.

I’m glad I posted because the helpful commenters also advised bed liner, which I hadn’t considered.

Bed liner is something a lot of people would use. If you went that route, you might have to paint the whole thing if you don't like the texture mismatch with the powder coat. I'm also not sure how it would affect fit of mating pieces. Somebody who has used it on a rack is better qualified to answer that.

Here's a classic Land Cruiser painted entirely in red bed liner.LandCruiser.jpg

I’ve never used bed liner before but I have bought some and will use it on this tomorrow or Friday.

I wonder if I could spray it and use a brush to spread it out/even it out a bit.

For the most uniform results, I avoid using a brush. Whatever imperfection I try to fix that way usually ends up getting worse.

Good to know. Ok, so just sort of lightly spray the trouble areas and hope for the best?

Yeah, a few thin coats are better than one thick one.

Report the purchase to your Credit Card Company. Tell them the truth. You received a damaged product and the company you purchased from is unresponsive.

The CC Co. HAS to get involved according to Federal Law. They will remove the charge from your account until the matter is settled. Make sure you keep copies of ALL correspondence and get confirmations in writing via email/snail mail.

I stopped fighting the kind of battles you are facing. Mess w/ me? Let's see what my big brother "Chase" has to say about it...

That's a wild thing to do over a small cosmetic issue that simple black paint in a can solves.
