What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

I love it! (So protected!) those sliders are super strong in DOM and the mounting plates look incredibly stout.

 

Finally painted and installed my Cali Raised rock sliders.

 

Anyone want to feel lucky and really good about their 4Runner today? At least yours doesn't need almost $9k in front end suspension work
I knew the struts were bad. I didn't know about the rest. I can do SOME things at home in my apartment garage. I can do brakes, oil changes, I even changed the steering rack bushings on my old Tacoma... but I don't have the tools, knowledge, or space (apartment doesn't like us working on stuff on their property) to carry out all this. I'm still waiting to hear back on less expensive strut options. Not sure why they charge so much for TPMS sensor replacement, I think Discount can do them for like $60 each. But even if a little comes off the top, it's still way more than I bargained for. Not sure what I'll do just yet. I absolutely love and want to keep it, but why do I have to have such expensive hobbies lol

 

You could definitely save about half that strut cost by going with Bilsteins or Ironman etc.

Why do you need both the upper and lower control arms replaced? If bushings are bad, can they just press in new bushings?

 

I asked about cheaper options for struts, I definitely don't need and probably would never make full use of the Icons. Not sure on the bushing situation, I can definitely ask them that.

 

yikes. Dont they fix chips from outside and use UV light to cure instead of heatgun?

 

My initial post may be off as I assumed the line item was parts only, but it appears it includes labor but, as an example, Shockwarehouse has the well-regarded Bilstein 5100 Front shock (you'd use your orginal spring or purchase new springs) for $160 each. There'd be an extra labor cost to swap springs (or perhaps you could buy new springs and have them sent assembled).

Find out why you need upper/lower control arms. Looks like they want to take you for a ride with all this unnecessary stuff.

Hey man, sorry to hear that but I read the comments so far and agree that 100% be careful you’re not being taken for ride, sadly. Never trust what the shop tells you even the dealership shop is untrustworthy, and commits unspeakable acts. Doesn’t even always matter if that person happens to be your friend, everyone looks out for numero uno at the end of the day Don’t let them take your OEM Toyota parts and replace with aftermarket unless you’re 100% sure those actually need replacing. I made this mistake myself already with my toyota.

Oh, and I recommend Bilstein as well. I run 5100’s, good for my use.
I was just at my metal fabricator guys. He had 5100s and switched to Icon for more money said he hated them. Take it as you will.

I lifted the front of my 2020 4Runner TRD Base with 1.5 in lifting spacers.

After doing so i started the car and it’s throwing the ABS code and 4WD code and many more.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

yeah I really like the simple round bar sliders, and bumpers too. no top plate rust that I may have to worry about, in my region.
the mounting plate is 1/4”, I bet these things should last a lot time.
my wife bitched about difficulty climbing up into the truck when I had the runningboards off, and now with sliders on, big surprise she’s returned to bitching and says they stick out and has hit her leg LOL

Changed the oil as I'm taking it on vacation in 10 days.

Also tightened down the TRD pro skid plate which was not rattling loose, but way under spec. Curious if that solves my recent issue with an unidentified "oooooooooo" noise in the highway.

 

I purchased an extra TPMS for the spare but it looks dif than what I have now. Is there an additional metal cover I'm missing here?

 

Well, turns out I was wrong. They didn’t melt the tint, the repair was done wrong and material shot through the crack and got stuck between the windshield and the tint.

They are going to put another Toyota windshield in it and re-tint it at no cost.
Last time the parts took a few weeks to get here.

I only use factory windshields. Seen what happens with cheap glass in accidents. No thanks.

Installed diode dynamic stealth mount and 4 ss3 pods. Super easy install. First time I've ever had the bumper off. Took my time and it still only took 2 hours. Looks sick. I need to get some better pictures.

 

I went out for a haircut today, passing a nearby Maserati/Alfa Romeo dealership on the way home. They had a '23 4R for sale out front, which I assume they took in trade. I wonder what the owner traded for. My first guess would be a Stelvio, since that's their biggest seller. On the other hand, that's a big drop in capability in exchange for what? Hopefully the owner got something more fun.

 

I used to think this also, but after working in the wholesale auto auction business for a bunch of years. My guess is they picked it up from an auction for a quick sale.

I suppose that's possible. This is a strange dealership, though. They usually have a just handful of cars on the lot, and the 4R is one of only three or four right now. I believe the owner also has a Lexus dealership.

Hardly any that I can tell at reasonable speeds. I noticed just a bit at 70+, but nothing like other racks and/or crossbars I've experienced on other vehicles. I had a Yakima rack with a fairing (years ago) that was whistling loud at 45 MPH.

My next mod is going to be the biggest, loudest air horn that I can fit. I was almost hit twice today by idiot drivers.
