Suggestions for buffing out scratches? Update

Just wrap it now, there are only a limited number of times you can buff it out like that before you eat through all the clear coat. Wrap it, then have fun forever. The wrap won’t even get a scratch so you won’t even have to worry about it at all.

 

Awesome! Thanks! I was wondering how well the wrap would protect the paint as far as thickness and would I keep having to re-wrap because it got damaged etc.. That info helps a lot. Kind of hate to cover up the Terra so quick but I don't want to worry about it.

 

First, Z06....awesome! Lol! My love for cars started in childhood with a 1970 1/2 Camaro and a 1970 1/2 AAR Hemi Cuda. So....respect the Z06.
Track wrap? I haven't researched much yet and want to make sure to do it right the first time.

 

Thank you for the compliment on the Z and those 2 cars were great back then. As far as the track wrap. That includes the whole front end of the 4runner and so much up about a foot up the doors and the rear quarters same way. Also the wrap goes up the pillars from the hood. All those areas are where the 4runner gets the most nicks and chips.

 

I think the AAR Cuda came with the 340 only.

 

Yes. I can't remember the exact number but they had to manufacture like 2500 to be labeled a production car and raced stock.

 

I was a teenager in 1967 and LOVED the TransAm series. Luckily my parents lived only 20 miles away from Watkins Glen and I attended virtually every major race from 1967 to 1976……TA, CanAm, F1 etc….
Mark Donahue in his blue Sunoco Z28 trading paint with Parnelli Jones and George Follmer in factory Boss 302s, Dan Gurney in AAR Cudas, Peter Revson in TA Challengers and last but not least, Herb Adams’s “Grey Ghost” 64 GTO.
After college I moved to the west coast but would fly back for the fall F1 race.

They were kinda stock…..but really all out race cars. Mark Donahue’s car owner, Roger Penske made his name in that series. Penske got in hot water after it was discovered he was acid dipping the “bodies in white” to reduce weight. Mark was an accomplished mechanical engineer and made Penske’s job easy, relaying the car’s performance problems and suggesting changes/adjustments. Mark died in a freak European F1 crash.
The Chrysler 340 had to be de-stroked to get under the 5L/305ci TransAm engine limit.

 

I'm SO envious! And thank you for taking the time to tell me about what you were able to experience first hand. I have to live vicariously through those that choose to share. I wasn't born until 1971 so my favorite cars....those years were behind me when I became a lover of cars, but especially American muscle. I started getting Hot Rod Magazine when I was 8 or 9.

My aunt had a 70 AAR Cuda...and she'd take it to the track...all 4'10' of her. She sold it through Hot Rod in the 80's. My mom had the 70 Camaro, not a Z not desirable, in fact even I thought it was sort of ugly the. But I loved that car. Gold with a black vinyl top, air shocks, and gold Cragar Mags! It was passed down to me...and that story is heartbreaking. I don't have a muscle car now, but I do have my Grandpa's 1969 Chevy C10 that I learned to drive in. 3 on the tree...shift it very carefully or the linkage would bind. I need to get the engine dropped in it at some point.

I've heard about the acid dipping. The creativity that went into getting an edge...kind of miss those days. Washington State isn't exactly known for it's car racing venues...nothing like Watkins Glen for sure!
