How do you deal with dust when on a trail?

Two days on Washington Backcountry Discovery Route equals two days of vacuuming and brushing all the crevices and cracks after.
The weather was nice, and I opened roof and back windows...

How do you deal with dust after trails?

 

Lots of wet rag + car wash. That southwestern red dust is terrible.

 

Umm, keep windows closed.

 

The back window sucks in dust, so I usually leave that closed. If you're with a group, you're either getting dusty, or keeping the windows shut.

I use a car duster to get the bulk of it, then spray dash cleaner and wipe it down. I've heard of people using leaf blowers or compressed air, but I haven't tried either one myself.

 

Leaf blower helps, can confirm.

 

I left my rear hatch window open a few inches by accident on a dusty road. It took me a few minutes to figure out why the visibility was dropping and why everything tasted like gravel lol. Just those few minutes needed some cleanup work (eventually). The rear window should not be open even an inch…it literally suctions the dust into the vehicle.

The fronts open (only) aren’t so bad if you have clear air in front, but every time you stop you’ll be overrun by your own dust cloud and it will get inside.

One of the reasons we dumped the taco for the runner, couldn’t keep the dust off the stuff in the bed no matter how I had the bed covered.

even with windows closed, if I’m following someone, I still can taste the dust in the air. My solution is to not follow, be followed.

 

Septa detailing brushes and chemical guys all purpose cleaner. Lots of microfibers.

Nothing wrong with getting the rig a little dirty

 

You leave the windows up, sunroof closed, and MOST CERTAINLY do NOT open the back glass.
The back glass has a low pressure area behind it, if you will notice any time you drive down a dirt road you will see a ton of dust pooled up on the back window ledge, bumper, ect. This low pressure area behind the vehicle sucks dust up from under the vehicle and allows it to swirl behind the window. When you open the back window it literally creates a vacuum and sucks that dirt/dust into your vehicle.

 

Windows closed and recirc. I bought the Fourcam Engineering rear pressure vents but haven’t installed them yet.

 

Even if you don't open the windows, you occasionally have to open the doors, especially if you're camping or you have to get out and spot now and then. The wind is going to donate some dust every chance it gets.

 

Haha yessssss my interior used to always look like that too, was impossible to keep up with. But like everyone else is mentioning, I now just keep the windows closed and air on recirc. Also if your interior looks like that, take a moment to check out your air filters and give them a few taps, they might be caked up with dust too (engine and cabin).

 

I have an actual feather duster hanging off my center console, and use it whenever I notice the dust, even during trips. I learned that from an old ranger. I also have a small air blower, like the kind used for blowing dust out of PC's, which I try to use on both the interior and exterior of the truck. I've never cleaned my headliner, though. Now I'm afraid to.

 

Keep all windows closed and don’t open a door when you stop until the large dust cloud passes you / settles down.

that’s how we do it for ranch work and it keeps a large amount of dust out but some will always get in.
