Yeah, I agree, this person provided plausible data which lead me here. No doubt will change oil and related parts at 500ish, 1500ish, and 5000 on my dime.

Plan to keep your car forever. Trade it in or sell it opportunistically.

Sounds like a waste of time and money. Plus you would have to change the break in gear lube, tranny fluid, brake fluid, coolant and refrigerant as well just to be sure.

Were you able to read links I posted the last time explaining why metal in the oil is harmful to your engine? Driving 10K on that first oil will put a lot more than 10K of wear on your engine.

You have a filter so it isn’t circulated and if it was a real issue then the engine would die the second a single particle let go. Plenty of people go 5 or 10K miles without changing out the oil and never experience issues plus their engines last a long time. Toyota tough but scared about oil makes no sense to me and again change out all fluids because there can be metal shavings in those too.

You are wrong. I explained to you the last time - oil was sampled at the drain plug, so it is oil that passed through the filter, this metal is circulated and filter does not remove all metal, only large chunks.

Engine oil matters a lot more because of how it is used. Inside your engine there are multiple fluid film bearings and surfaces. Your differential is not going to develop blow-by because abrasive metal particles took it out of tolerance.

Do you have anything to contribute other than variations of "people do it all the time" arguments?

Car Filter has a bypass! Those are not full flow filter! And will go in bypass during cold start up or if the filter is slowly getting clogged to prevent oil starvation, high rev (high oil pressure) can cause it also. And for your comment about replacing coolant oh boy! Not exactly the same consequences. Bearing in engine, camshaft and pistons rings are somewhat more critical And more prone to micro damage that can occur and reduce engine life to some extent. But you did follow the recommended maintenance toyota will not nail you if shit happens during your warranty period.

People go to 5 or 10K without issue all the time.

The bypass only operates when the filter media is plugged which it isn’t. If the filter is so useless and the bypass is open letting everything by, delete the filter.

Who knew that another thread with "oil change" in the title would devolve into another OCI pissing match...

The bottom line is the engine will go 500k plus miles regardless of whether you do break in oil changes.

"...Plenty of people go 5 or 10K miles without changing out the oil.."

That rationale is incorrect on principle. It does not provide actionable data nor does it challenge the opposing argument with actionable data.

The data on break-in oil contents is clear. The oil is 'dirty' and needs to be changed. Period. Both data and credible subject matter experts support it. It's pretty simple for those reading this thread to choose between an approach supported by data and an approach supported by hearsay.

It doesn't matter, I'll never will nor have I ever done break in changes. None of you will have engine problems if you don't do break in changes. Period.

How is people not being paranoid about their engine oil by following the recommended intervals and the engine still lasting a long time, hearsay? Oil is “dirty” as soon as you run the engine and blow by gets into it.

I hope your driving is better than your posting, because you turned this discussion into pile up of wrongs that closed the highway both ways.

Initial oil is NOT fine at 500 miles, the analysis clearly shows it is full of metal. Other people had an early sample analyzed and had similar results. This is a hard fact that does not care about how you feel about it.

Will you engine fail if you do not do it? No, but it will have more internal wear than if you do an early change. You don't want that metal circulating in your engine for 10K.

Circulating would mean it made it into the oil pump and past the filter. Therefore the oil pump would be damaged but it isn't. It's fine.

There is no point in having this dialog. Why do you care when other people change their oil? You're happy with your method, so....
