I just upgraded my Limited to 275s yesterday. I installed the Yokohama Geolander X- ATs. I love how they look vs the stock 245s. Now here comes storytime:

First, I dropped my Limited off at 7am for the tires and alignment. I was told “It should be ready by Noon.” I didn’t hear anything but didn’t care since I WFH and live within walking distance to the shop. At 4pm I still hadn’t heard anything. I called for an update since they close at 5pm and was told ”They just started working on it.” 47 minutes later the shop calls and tells me “It’s ready.”

Second, I only drove home and parked. Today I was able to drive more and see that the steering wheel is in the same crooked position as it was when I dropped it off. I called the shop and they are telling me they completed the alignment.

What does everyone think? Did they do the alignment or not. I think not. Note: They didn’t provide me with a copy of the before and after alignment specs. I called today right after I received a follow up text asking how my service went. When I stated my concern and that I didn’t receive those specs I was told “We don’t give those out unless the customer asked for them.” I was always under the impression those were given to show proof that the work wascompleted. Also, should the PSI be at 55?

They didn't mount and balance 4 tires and do a complete alignment in 47 minutes.

Thanks for responding. I’m not as stupid as they must think I am, I use to work in the service department at Lexus. I just wanted to confirm. What about the PSI being at 55? I assume since the 275s are bigger they need more air. I don’t know!?

Are the tires load range E? If so that could be the correct tire pressure.

What does it say on the side of the tire? Pressure has nothing to do with size, it's based on load range.

Pressure is based on size, load range, and the vehicle's GVWR. The max inflation on the sidewall is irrelevant, except that you shouldn't exceed it.

@2022LimitedMidnight , there's absolutely no way they did all of that work in 47 minutes. Hopefully you can get your money back for the alignment. Maybe you can demand a printout of the specs, or a refund. I've always gotten a printout.

Also, what size are the new tires? I think 275/55/R20 is the usual upgrade for the Limited/Nightshade, but I'm not sure. If I am correct, even LT tires in that size should only be inflated to 37 PSI, cold. SL tires could be run at 26, but I don't know if I'd run them that low.

If it's an option, I would never use that shop again.

Take it back, if they did the alignment, the steering wheel should’ve been set back to center.

@Dabigono @Thatbassguy @Mtnclimber @gkomo @MEski4x4 Thank you to everyone who responded. The load range is C, so 50 PSI. I will probably just leave it at 55. I talked with the owner the other morning and told him I want the alignment to be completed since I don't believe it was completed in the first place. I told him I was a SA at a Lexus dealership for several years, I'm no dummy. I also demanded to see the specs as soon as it's on the rack and when the work is completed before it's taken off the rack. They have a great big window into the shop so I'll be watching the entire time. I also will get a print out of both the before and after specs. I had never heard of a shop not giving specs to a customer. Now to get it leveled. Thanks again.

    50 PSI? Gat Dayum.
I run 40psi in my E load 34s... 50 felt pretty rough even with added weight.

Used to run 37psi in my 33" C loads. Which was Nitto's recommendation.

You sure that's not the "Max pressure rating?"
Most people run their C loads between 30-40 psi.

275/55R20 looked like it has less sidewall than 245/60R20 to my eyes. Maybe the lift gave that look. If I'm not mistaken I ran closer to 32psi with the Falken Wildpeak AT3W standard load tires. I could not wait to upgrade to 17s. I sold the 20s and got 17s, I was extremely happy with my decision.

Was this shop a national chain or just a local ? I ran my C’s at 38.

50 PSI is MAX on C load tires. I would drop them down to 35ish. Holy fuck that shop sucks.

50 PSI is the maximum inflation. That is not the correct tire pressure. You never run the maximum inflation. And, definitely don't run above the maximum inflation! You're going to wear unevenly, and have reduced traction with overinflated tires.

If you don't believe me, check here for yourself: Also, I only see the X-AT in load range E and XL 275/55/20 on Yokohama's website.

    Thanks that's a handy tool!
I am running 5 extra psi according to that website.
I might back it down just a bit and see how they feel. :hattip:

Take another/closer look at those tires. I think you have E-rated tires - not C-rated. Two reasons - the shop inflated the tires to the recommended 55psi (max is 80) for E-rated and... I don't think Yokohama makes that tire in anything but XL and E rated.

55 PSI would not be recommended for those tires in any load range. But, you are correct in that they only appear to be offered in E and XL.

Alright I messed up. I didn't actually select my correct tire size on the Yokohama website. I just read what was the default tire. Went back and read the sidewall. I do in fact have tires with a Load Range of E. The sidewall also had the following message: Never inflate beyond 40 PSI to seat beads- what does this mean? Would really love to know what the PSI should be in my 275/55/20 E rated tires.

On the 20x7, with a 275 tire, you will likely be around 30-32 up front and around 25 in the rear to get the tires to flatten out and put the whole tread on the road.
I have limited 20x7 on my Tundra with 275s, and i have 34 in the front and 28 in the rear. v8 engine and tundra is a shade heavier than the new 4R
My 285s on my limited i have 28 up front and 24 in the rear.
My 305s on my wifes limited we are at 25 up front and 18 out back.
This is what it takes to get the tires to flatten out and ride with the whole tread on the road surface.

If you run 55psi in those 275 wide tires on a 7" rim, you are going to be riding on the middle 4" of the tire, its going to be ballooned up and you are going to be riding on a stiff, hard, bicycle tire.

    I run my 265/70/17 BFG ATKO2 @ 42PSI.
Have 55K on them, balance and rotate every 5K.... still have 6/32" left on them.
