It’s 105F here in CA, car has been baking in the sun.

open the hood and through the holes is what at first appears like grease, but cools down and resembles a waxy substance.

any idea what this is? It’s leaking out the holes in the hood.
No visible contamination elsewhere in the engine bay.

Do you have an Occam's razor, maybe you could scrape some of it and get a better look?

Was fluid film or woolwax applied? Possibly sprayed into the hood? My pb blaster surface shield will drip off the frame when it's really hot.

Probably a rustproofing spray done by the previous owner (I know, completely alien concept in CA).

It’s possible yeah, the car did have some film on the interior seats, but it was from Toyota. I’ve had the car for years just really odd why any film would be IN the hood.
Considered some sorta of factory retardant of the sorts? Which could be in the hood.
Mainly wanted to know if anyone else expericed this, or if it was a known thing.
It’s definitely a film or waxy substance.
    Thanks all for the comments

We had this issue with my wife’s Volkswagen. Every time it hit 100 wax crap would drain from the frame. We were told it was a spray at port to prevent rust. Sucked how many clothes it ruined though.

Yes standard rustproofing service sprays inside the hood, the doors, the tailgate. The shop will typically also drill holes in the doorsills to spray inside.

It isn't factory. The Toyota engineers in Japan have no idea what rust is.

Interesting haha fairly certain this is what it is then. It’s been a CA rig all its life so was probably done at port.

Feel a bit foolish now, but suppose it’s best to have it there, than not!

I have that on my 2020 4R as well. I originally thought maybe residue from a radiator issue, but a rust-proofing spray does seem more likely.

My 2020 is the same or worse. Whatever it is, it came from the factory. It is hot but rust is not a concern where I live. I had a buddy tell me that it was windshield washer water leaking in the hood, but it is not. I checked everything I could think of.
