Project farm did a thing on several motor oils. Penzoil came in maybe slightly below mobile 1. Almost a negligible difference but it's a far better price.

 

Also check with home depot, they have decent pricing on penzoil too

 

I've been using Pennzoil at least since my 1st FJ a 2008. Like I've always said if it's good enough for Penske racing it's good enough for my street vehicles. Roger P is no dummy & I know they sponsor his teams but still he does know how to win.
Still need to buy 2 qts to make it the 6.5 qts on change. I'll get 2 of the 5 qt & 3 qts for the next 2 changes if they have it in stock when I go.
Sweet just ordered 2 5qt container & 3 1 qts on line. saved $26.42. Good thing is wife is going to lunch near there W/her sister & can pick it up for me!

What's the shelf life on these full synthetic oils for partially used/open containers?

 

I may try Kendall (made by Conoco Philips) to be different but it’s not something easily found here in derpifornia because it the label probably causes cancer.

The internets say 5 years unopened.

 

How long do you hold the .4/.5 quart that gets left after the oil change? I just realized I have at least 3, 1 quart jars, half full from previous oil changes.

 

I use it within 4-6 months since I accumulate enough mileage. I'd probably toss it in a year if it was open.

 

Well seeing oil change takes 6.5 qts use that .5 qts at next oil change. Why I bought 2 5qt containers & 3 1qt's for next two oil changes.
Like I've mentioned before WT Heck don't these engineers make sumps to an even qt. It's no big woo these days cause you've got the window on the side of the container to see when you've used 1/2qts. Back when it was in cans was a pain to judge more so.I used to push my thumb in the middle of the can & look in the opening to get close to 1/2

 

I remember the Castrol GTX days with those green and white metal cans.

 

Watch all of Project Farm. He's pretty good I just wish he didn't talk so fast. Some of the things he creates to test stuff just amazes me.

I think he got that feedback because his newer video's he talks more slowly. I like the faster talking. Less time to get through the information I want. At any rate he's a bad ass. Wish more people were like him. Seems like everyone wants to tell you about their story in every video as they never really cover the content that the titles of the video suggests...anyway...yeah he's amazing.

 

My dad used Penzoil and STP oil treatment his whole adult life never remember him having oil related engine problems. Engines were quite different then. Me personally I've always used Castrol been driving close to 50 years myself

The census as well across many channels is that Castrol is top notch and some of their oil for high performance engines is probably the best, and that they've been doing this since the late 1800's they probably know better than most how to make good oil.

 

That's good to know. I used to run Penn 0w-20.

Recently switched to Castrol 5W-30 for the summer months in Texas. I was on the fence about which brand so I stuck with tried and true Castrol.

 

I've always used whatever is on sale it has never let me down!

 

I just dump 7 quarts in at each oil change.

No extra 1/2 quarts sitting around.

 

That is convenient no doubt but that would really take my oil level way over the max dot on the dipstick. I added 6.6 and I am sort of close to the max dot.

 

I'm right at the max line with 7 quarts.

 

I paid an arm and a leg for the Ultra though

 

I read that the detergents in the PUP are very good.
Harder to find though

 

I really don't get too hyped on the extra stuff. My 2008 & 2012 FJ's,2015 Tacoma ,2018 4Runner all used Pennzoil Full Syn 0W-20 done @10k miles. I trade between 70-85k miles. Now this one only has 3,400 miles since new Nov-23 due to working from home, so I will be doing the 5k interval oil/filter changes.

 

It will add tons of power and your truck will go 3,000,000 miles easy!
