Dealership replaced a faulty sunglass holder on my 2024 4ruuner...Seems to work fine now , When i got home i norticed 2 spots on upper console that had pry marks on the plastic...Is this just shoddy work?....Im actually afraid to bring back to dealership..Might just live with it...seems like the more dealershipszzzzzas.jpg zzzxsx.jpg do the more they screw it up...What would you guys do?

Unfortunately, par for the course these days. Sorry.

I think I'd learn to live with it unless you think you can talk them into fixing it without messing something else up.

Yeah i have decided just to live with it...I guess i will have to deal with the battle scars...Just a damn shame that nobody seems to take any pride in the work they do.

Yeah, I get that way about my stuff, it’s a bummer to sustain little battle scars here and there that could have otherwise been avoidable. But I’d leave it. It seems these days the more you screw with stuff to “fix” it, the worse the situation becomes.

I’ve got a couple little boo boos on the center console of my 2022, but I bought it that way pre-owned / certified. I almost didn’t buy the vehicle because of those couple little boo boos. Wifey said if something that little bothers you, you’re going to have to buy a brand new one instead.

We bought the ‘22, and I’ve since learned to not lose any sleep over them. Like wifey said, you know where they are, but if you don’t bring it up no one else will even know they’re there.

I agree with @glwood54 - par for the course, sadly. I recently watched a video of a mechanic at a Mazda dealership installing a CarPlay update (it'a a Mazda thing). I was doing this to two of our cars. The guy was using a flat head screwdriver to pry all the dash/console panels ON THE DAMN VIDEO. If he's willing to document and advertise that level of &%$@ work, imagine what he hides.

Save your photos, take it back to the dealership asap and document all your conversations, who did you speak to, name, and result of the conversation...

Yea....small thing but on principle I would talk to "Service Manager" and have them replace it. That tech is a clod.
    2024 under warranty....why be afraid?

    Oooh look, another mod.....
But now we'll know about them Rick. And every time you post something, we'll think of your center console.

    ....and we'll be judging you!

I got call back from service manager....All apologetic and asked if i would send them pics of the issue...He will look at them and call me tomorrow with plan of attack to rectify the situation so i can be fully satisfied...I will update...It looks like there is no way to replace the marred plastic...without replacing the entire console...(im no mechanic..you guys may know better) I will tell you this...I am requesting the best person they have for the job...(if thats the plan ...i have to assume it will be)

I get it... I almost want to put our 2024 in bubble wrap sometimes. Ours just turned 1000 miles and I do wonder when I'll ever get to the point where I won't sweat the small stuff. I drove my 2001 QX4 every where and didn't care who I parked it by; the new 4runner has been a different story.

It's textured plastic. You can't "pry" or use a trim tool without changing the texture.

I dunno bout dealerships, least with this truck, but I do know that when I removed the whole sunglasses multi terrain crawl etc to fish my scan gauge wiring up from ECU to the front of said sunglasses crawl overhead thingamajig
There’s A LOT that could get funked up
Headliner, wiring, motor dislodge(sunroof), the softassplastic…
    Forget it or risk it

I’ve gotten better at just leaving even my own work @

Too poor to buy anything now
A little heat at just the right places will relieve the "whiteness" of those pry marks. Not a perfect fix but will make them less noticeable.

I had to remove the overhead console to install a Dongar adapter for my dash cam. It’s easy to do without marring anything. Dongar’s installation video shows how.

If Toyota will give you a new one maybe you should install it yourself.

Hey @UG4runner from those pictures, it looks like the tech used a screwdriver, rather than a trim tool

I'd talk to the service manager just to see if they will help you

you may be able to mitigate some of that with a heat gun...
I've used a heat gun and then rubbed the plastic with a piece of scrap wood in my 2000 4Runner, but I've been beating on this truck for 20 years and it makes the dents look better, but not new

I dunno, I pulled my upper console off to replace the SOS button with a dummy blank. I did not mar anything, looks brand new.
If a proper trim removal tool is used, it pops right off.
Those last photos look like they used a small screwdriver to pop it off and had no clue where the clips that hold it in are.

I Received Call today...After sending them pics of car...They Told me that this is Totally unnacceptable and agreed with me tech did not use proper tool to do the job. They are going to replace the entire console. They obviously will not use the same tech to do work....They also offered to come pick up Truck and drive it back to my house when done..No thanks to that. I will let you know when completed

    Wow…really? I’m genuinely surprised. That’s actually incredible.

All I’ve gotten during warranty claims are wastes of time and nicks in my paint. And a bill to tell me they could not reproduce. Maybe this means the tide is changing…one could hope.
