Clicking/popping noise front end on articulation

That test would rule out the latch, but not necessarily the hinges.

 

Ok I found out the culprit which makes total sense it was the rear coils I have the ome 2895e and they were super loose I could turn them by hand

 

Interesting…. Are the coils factory height? Or did they just sag over time. That’s a whole lot of sagging!

Actually, wait a minute. Do you have the isolators on top of the coils? I’m having a hard time imagining how they could be so loose. Maybe they’re missing?

Edit: good catch, by the way. I had my coils make a clicking sound a while back after I sprayed some woolwax near the coil seats. Thankfully they quieted down once I sprayed them down with some brake clean

edit 2: I wonder if they moved because they weren’t clocked/indexed correctly on the seat. The coil end fits into a notch in the seat. It should be impossible to move them in one direction. It would also be extremely difficult the other direction because I’m pretty sure turning the coil end away from the notch effectively requires compression of the coil (it’s like a ramp).

Interesting if anything you would think the woolwax would help lubricate and dampen any noise instead of causing it

 

I think the woolwax lubricated the seat and allowed the coil to shift slightly as the suspension moved. Those little micro-movements caused snap/pop sounds. I think everything locks in better when the coil/seat interface is clean and bone dry.

I’m curious, how did you fix the loose coil? Is the isolater/internal bumstop installed?

 

Was it jacked up while you were doing this? I'm trying to figure out how you could turn a spring with the vehicle weight resting on it unless something else is missing.

 

If the coils were loose enough to turn by hand, what's supporting the rear of your 4R?

 

I’m sorry yes jacked up I have some dobinsons on order hopefully it fixes it o wasn’t a fan of my ome coils they are way too stiff

To update anyone who cares I finally got my dobinson rear coil springs and swapped them in and the noise indeed went away so it was my ome coils making the noise

I had a similar issue after my lift where the sway bar was contacting the skid plate. I have kdss and the spacer in the system. After cutting out the opening on the side of the skid plate about 1/2 inch larger it’s all good now.
