Long lasting wipers

I replaced OEMs with PIAA last year. 24" + 20" front and it seems the insert is coming off. I was thinking of going again with same brand but jus wondering if anyone has had better running wipers they'd recommend? I installed it June 2023, and the insert starting coming out maybe last month, just been lazy to replace it until now.

 

I just walk to Toyota dealership and buy the rubber inserts.

I will have to check but I think I have already discarded the OEM wipers. Will these just slide in PIAA wipers?

Not sure about PIAA fitment but would 2nd the opinion of sticking with OEM and just replacing inserts. My OEM lasted 4 years and I just replaced the inserts last year (both fronts and the rear). I also have another set of inserts because I bought a backup - cost for two new sets of inserts was less than one set of front only aftermarket replacements (the ones I looked at)

I kinda am scared to walk in dealership and be told new wipers cost $200, or have them sell me locally sourced wipers. Is there a dealership that sells and ships these?

 

I'm trying out Scrubbable as soon as the sun goes away. I had tried Trico which lasted pretty long and Bosh which lasted about a year but I think the sun tears them up.

I too didn’t know about the oem wiper refill possibility and threw mine out as well. So went through several sets until I decided to buy the most expensive wipers I could find in the auto parts store. I spent nearly $100 bucks on 2 wipers. It’s not hard to do they are all too expensive now. I figured they would suck too and was just a waste of money but have had them for a year now and they still work like new. I picked the rain x advantedge.

I usually change wiper blades after winter and sometime in the fall before winter. Snow and ice wreck em all. This set held up for a year so far.

 

Don’t be scared of dealerships. Go in, explain what you did, and ask for options. You might be surprised. If they can’t help, go somewhere else. Getting to know dealership parts guys has always been beneficial to me.

 

I just go to parts dept and ask "can I have a set of wiper rubber inserts for 2019 4runner?"

Meanwhile I ran Bosch Icons all these years because they look cool...

 

My original wipers are going on 6 years now and they are still fine.

 

Just my personal opinion.
I prefer OEM rubber inserts over Bosch, especially in winter.

I have tried both Bosch Icon and InVision in the past. I think looks are subjective. I wasn't a big fan of the looks either. I don't have good pics of them, just took screenshots from my ditch lights / pods video.

 

I just ordered mine online and had them shipped to the closest dealer - there was a sale going on at the time. Got the part numbers from this site - would have to dig them up but looks like others have posted

Living in snow country, I find that we replace once a year. Usually the inserts.

 

Many dealerships won't sell individual inserts or even order them for you. On my road trip, I sampled dealerships across the country. I ended up ordering from BAM.

 

You need the entire OEM assembly-can't use OEM inserts on non-OEM assemblies.

 

Agree with above, you may need to replace the whole wiper to get back to using the inserts. Luckily there is a sale right now

The OEM blades do seem to last a long time. Mine are 3 years old and still work good. No streaking or squeaking. LOL But then, I'm retired. The 4R sits in a garage when I'm not driving it, out of the sun and weather. So no telling how long they will last.

 

Disclaimer, mine spends most of the time in the garage too. I have found that if you periodically clean the wiper with isopropyl alcohol and a rag, it helps performance.

 

I kept the original wipers in case but I went for the on-sale Costco Michelin ones for $8 per.

Alternatively, some extended life Trico ones served me well from RockAuto but not sure if either one really rose above the others.

If I wanted to splurge I’d probably try something silicone.

I have been spending STUPID money for the whole wiper blades...
bosch, rain-x, or any of them only seem to last 6 months or so

your video shows how easy it is, and Ima buy some inserts for all three wipers during this sale

 

What’s the point of looking for a long lasting wiper? You should replace them every 12 months. OEM and good to go. Takes less than 2 minutes on both side and cost maybe $25-$30 each.

 

I replaced my OE blades with expensive Bosch. Biggest waste of money, they got chattery pretty quickly. However I don’t regret replacing the bosch with brand new OE blades and inserts. It cost the same as the bosch blades to undo my mistake. From now on, I’m buying OE inserts and having them shipped to a dealer.

 

Yeah, the inserts are cheap, shipping is not. I bought from https://autoparts.toyota.com/ and they wanted more in shipping than the two sets I bought. Picking up from the nearest dealer meant free shipping. I had to replace a fog light recently and did the same. I feel more comfortable getting OEM parts through this site than Amazon - although they seem available and get free shipping to me, I don't want some counterfeit knockoffs

 

My dealers in the area don't do inserts anymore, just the whole blade. Still about the same prices as a high end blade. I got Bosch blades last time, seem good.

Still on my search for the perfect blade, like my old triple edge that lasted years.
