I'm looking to pick up some better fog lights for my 4R but am stuck a bit trying to decide between the Sport or Pro in Amber. I've read the output is much better on the Pro, but the Sport has a more defined cutoff.

    Any insight would be appreciated!

Does your 4runner have factory LED fogs?
Have you read their Q&A? Make sure they will even fit your vehicle
    https://www.diodedynamics.com/ss3-led-fog-light-kit-for-2014-2024-toyota-4runner.html

    ...
It mentions not being compatible if your vehicle has LED fog lights from the factory. But the description says that it’s for all years up to 2023 4Runners. My 22 has LED fog lights so I wanted to know if there was a way to confirm if these would work.

Unfortunately, since you have OEM LEDs these will not work due to fitment with the housings and connectors. Sorry about that!

I had the SS3 Pro in my Tacoma, super fantastic output and loved the amber. Do you want to be The Main Character on the road? Personally I wouldn't do it again.

I have factory LED, but I've read countless places that it doesn't matter.

I'm not looking to get noticed, just buying the most cost effective performance. DD is doing 20% off Pro and Max fogs starting Monday. If the Sports would have been on sale I'd have just bought those. So with the discount I didn't know if they'd be worth it.

Sport should be fine and legal. Pros might not be in your state.

FYI Sports won't melt snow, if that's relevant to your particular use.

I have the Pros and they're absolutely fantastic. But I won't use them in traffic. I run them as if they are a high beam. They are supposedly sae compliant but there's a lot of glare, even when aimed correctly.

I would use them in snow, especially since I drive early in the morning when it's still a mess out to get to work.

I got the Pros in amber. We do a lot of driving in the fog and rain. Made a huge difference!

can you just switch the DD Pro bulbs out with the factory bulb by going thru the fender well?
Or do you have to pull the front bumper off to install these?

    how hard was the install?

Drivers side you can easily install from underneath. Passenger side you install through the wheel well. Remove 4 or 5 bolts and just pull back the plastic fender well.

It's not just a bulb you're replacing. It's the whole light housing.

It wasn't difficult. Removal of the front bumper will make everything easier. There is a protective cover on the passenger factory foglight that's a pain to remove from under the vehicle.

thank you, that's kinda what I thought

thinking of getting some Alden James fang lights, and those require the bumper come off
since its about 117 degrees here in North Mexico, I'll wait til December to tackle this project

Have the Pros on our 2017 and the Maxs on our 2021. 2021 came with factory LEDs and had no issue fitting the Maxs. I would opt for the Maxs if your budget allows

The Pros have larger LEDs which is why they have more “spill.”. Technically still an SAE fog, but some people feel like the extra light upwards is too blinding for oncoming drivers. Sport and Max have the tighter cutoff. The link you posted corroborates the emitter sizes as stated here as well. Also own sport, pro, and max with pro and max being mounted on separate vehicles currently. Sport being tucked in a drawer.

No plans to use the Sports? Or just that underwhelming compared to to Pro and Max?

Good illustration here of the low beam cut off on the white fence on the right side. And the fog light spill over the top of it on the lower photo.

Wait, the SS3 don't fit on 5th gens with factory LED fogs? I did not see that. I have a '21 TRD Pro with factory LED fogs. Just replaced with Baja Squadron-R SAE and hate them. Bought the SS3 Pros assuming they would fit as well.

The Q&A section on their website does say they won't fit on vehicles equipped with OEM LEDs. But then in the reviews, there are tons of people with factory LED fogs that say they fit no problem lol... confusing.

They’re better than OEM and fine for a lot of people. Needed snow melting at the time so quickly upgraded to Pros in amber. Max was not an option when I upgraded. Sports will get their optics changed for driving optics and mount them as auxiliary high beams or mounted as rear fog lights to be seen better in bad weather

I believe what you said about the cutoff is correct.

I'd go with the "Sport" in yellow. Amber is not an option. I'm not sure why people keep mentioning it.

As mentioned in a post above, the sport is said to not burn hot enough to melt snow. So, that is something to keep in mind if you live in a snowy area.
