Nobody should take a look at Desert Door. It’s about as low quality and artificial as Sotol gets.

 

From experience comes your comment? If not Desert Door, what Sotol do you recommend that Total Wine might have.
The Sotol we had on our trip to the Copper Canyon Mexico was very tasty....

You may like Desert Door but it’s literally not Sotol. It exists because of the US’s lack of respect for international law.

Sotol is a Denomination of Origon protected spirit. It has to follow strict production rules and come from 1 of 3 regions of Mexico to qualify as Sotol. When the US replaced NAFTA with USMCA it removed the U.S. requirement of honoring Sotol’s DO. As a result Desert Door now makes “Sotol” in Texas with literally zero rules and regulations on how it’s made beyond basic health and safety. Desert Door is filled so many flavors, thickeners and sweeteners that wouldn’t otherwise be allowed in actual Sotol.

What’s your local Total Wine, I can give a recommendation based on what they have.

We did a 10 day Charter bus tour of Mexico crossing at Juarez. First stop was Chihuahua...after that it was a blur! We spent a couple of days at the Copper Canyon
then took a 150 mile train trip to another town. And on and on and on.....last stop was San Carlos on the Sea of Cortez for 2 nights. I wish we could have stayed there
longer. Beautiful Marina. Then it was the bus ride from hell north to the border at Nogales. 17 butt numbing hours until we finally got to Tucson Arizona.

G4 Blanco de Madera if the only G4 tequila made with deep well water and it was the first use of wood fermentation at El Pandillo. Blanco de Madera is an annual high proof special release. 2024’s Lot 3 is currently on shelves.

This is the 2023 Lot 2, it pairs well with 11,000 mountain top camp sites.

 

I just grabbed this today at City Spirits. Those guys keep stepping up their tequila section.



Hopefully it pairs well with sitting at the tiki bar and watching the river flow by.

 

Another sold event is in the books.

We’ve had enough brands reach out asking to be involved with the Colorado Agave Collective that we deviced a way to give brands an opportunity to come in and represent themselves. No brand will be given free reign over one of our events to come up and talk themself during a live action commercial of a sales pitch, while leading people to say they enjoy their stuff. 3 times a year we will host brands, but on our terms.

The only way brands can come in and represent themselves at a Colorado Agave Collective event is to participate in a Blinding the Brands event. The format is unique in that each brand gets the floor for 5 minutes and then each of the bottles goes into a blind tasting where, as always, the exceptional Tequila Ocho Plata is used as a control to warm up your palate and set the bar for a quality agave spirit. The brands and their representatives are put into a vulnerable spot where their spirit must be able to speak for itself to people with exceptionally skilled palates at a sold-out event.

When given the choice of coming to partake in this event or not coming at all, the reactions were understandably mixed. A few brands wanted nothing to do with it, one ghosted us completely, but some jumped at the opportunity with no hesitation.
