I can't believe I haven't noticed this until now, but it seems as though the paint on the drivers side door sill area of my 2022 MGM 4R SR5 has worn right down to the bare metal (see pic).

The truck only has 21,000 miles on it. At first I thought there must be something wrong with the door causing it to rub in that spot. I didn't think there was any way anything else could cause that much paint wear on such a new vehicle. But the more I looked at it and the specific location, it definitely seems to be in the exact spot your leg rubs when you get in and out of the drivers seat. My wife mainly drives the 4R during the week (I have a work vehicle).

Definitely disturbing. I am going to bring this up with the dealer since it is still under warranty but I have a feeling they will tell me this is wear and tear and my responsibility. And to be honest it does seem to be caused by wear and tear, but I am blown away that this could happen on such a new vehicle. Seems like something you'd see on a 13 year old vehicle with 210,000 miles not an under 3 year old one with 21,000 miles. I've seen similar wear on work trucks (Dodge Ram) but even those weren't down to the bare metal, and thats after 5 years of people getting in and out dozens of times a day in work boots. Not twice a day to and from daycare.

Has anyone else had this? Any TSBs or similar related to it?

I don't care so much about the look but am more worried about rust which is already starting to appear. I am guessing this area needs to be repainted and then maybe have some sort of film applied as a fix?

Other doors including the passenger front door have some minor scratches in the same area but nothing close to as bad, no metal shows on those ones.

2014 Neglected by the previous owners 2020 is an abused former rental... 2023 New I've been buying above my pay grade ☹️
My 2023 has bare metal underneath the covers over my radiator. I also found that the paint was not 100% covered under the plastic pieces that my door sill as well.

I have posted those photos somewhere around here...

Something very specific is causing that? A particular type of shoe sole? Something is repeatedly causing scratches. The paint is not just wearing off from blue jeans rubbing. Little rocks stuck in the soles of shoes?

I'll have to pay attention when I go to lunch but I haven't noticed any door jamb paint/paint issues in general with my '23 MGM. About to hit 21,000 miles

Does your wife wear heels? Sure looks like she drags a hard shoe across it before stepping onto the step.

Yeah, this is a bit of an exposed spot that will wear on 4runners. Probably due to the fact they sit higher and a foot will drag over that area every time you get out. The only way to avoid it is to be super vigilant getting in and out on where you place or drag your shoes. I put some clear gorilla tape on mine extending under the sill plate. It already wore out. A strip of PPF film might be better, but that will probably wear out too.

Usually paint loss due to rubbing, (like this or under the radiator plastic cover) doesn’t present much of a corrosion problem as long as the vehicle is in constant use. Even in the salt belt. But once it falls out of regular use, rust may set in.

No heels, but they use a ton of road said in our area in the winter and that is an area where we don’t clean often and the sand/dirt accumulates. So that could cause grit I guess.

Funnily enough our next door neighbor has a 2019 Limited and I asked him today if he’s ever had an issue there. Turns out he had the exact same wear in the exact same spot a couple years ago so he had it repainted and 3M put over top.
