Slice out of my bumper (was not marker)... wtf

EDIT ... Fuck! Just went out and re-investigated ... it's actually like someone took a apple peeler and took a fine slice off the bumper. Just took the paint off smooth and clean. So much worse than marker. I would have even considered a viper cut if it could have hit that spot ;). All the more reason to go get some pinstripes in the desert soon now haha.

Came out from dinner with my wife and youngest and noticed that someone drew on my bumper with marker. I'm not sure if they got startled or what as it is only a scribble, but this side was away from where it could be accidentally hit so it wasn't that nor is there any scratch. Just looks like a kid took a marker and started to draw on it. Any ideas on how to remove?

A lot of markers are soluble in alcohol. Others dissolve in oil. I've never tried either on a vehicle before, though.

I'll grab some alcohol tomorrow and give that a go first. Thank you

you ever cleaned a dry erase board that someone used a permanent marker on?

same thing may work better on your WHITE vehicle...

get a dry erase marker and go over the marker on your car, and while its still wet...
take your alcohol wet cloth and wipe away...
it may take a couple of times to get it all off, keep doing it with the dry erase marker and the alcohol until it doesn't get any lighter...

if it doesn't come all they way off, use a polish to get it all off...then wax over the area

Not even sure how this could happen as there is no impact mark but I imagine it had to be something on the highway I just didn't notice. No one is slicing bumpers haha

Well, like I said, now I can feel less bad when I start getting pinstripes getting out there. Supposed to take it on a small desert run tomorrow but I've been trying to wait until I had centercaps on my wheels first.

That sucks OP! The disrespect for other's personal property is now at an all time high. I don't know what happened to people after Covid, but something has changed in the world.

I’ve noticed and say the same thing you did and say it nearly every day. It seems too many people think they are the most important person in the world without a care for anyone else or their property.

Try it with some WD-40 first. Then alcohol and if all else fails, nail polish remover.

Edit- Getting it repainted is the only way to go. In the interim, touch up paint will do just fine and probably better.

DON'T use nail polish remover!! It will remove the marker as well as the paint.

Get a touch up wand from Toyota, paint code 040. Get a cheap airbrush from Amazon. With a wet cloth, sprinkle a little powdered Ajax or Comet on the wet cloth and gently wipe down the missing paint area and around it for a couple inches (it’s an old painters trick). Rinse with clean water. After it drys completely, pour some touch-up paint into the cup on the airbrush, you can thin the paint if need be with lacquer thinner. A couple tack coats, wait 15 minutes between coats. One color coat, then a gloss coat (be careful, just enough paint to gloss up). Leave it alone for 72 hours. I use the airbrush a lot for brake calipers.

No it does not. It might dull the clear coat. A wax job after will bring it back.
Now of course, if you keep rubbing at it, it will clean till bare metal. Subtilty is the key.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Third call for W40 w/ soft, clean cloth.

I'm pretty late to this and did not read everything but you you rub dry erase marker over sharpie ot will come off.

Unless it's pike stained into carpet or something. Needs to be a surface like a white board or a car.

@wax poetic - you might want to edit the title...you keep getting suggestions to fix the "marker" even though you've said its more than that. I guess "marker" is all people want to see without reading the rest of the thread.

Tire rub by some careless idiot. I absolutely hate parking lots.

That happened to my wife's Blizzard Pearl Avalon. I tried to touch it up but that didn't look good enough for me. While I had it in for an oil change the service writer told me they had a young lady that fixed things like that on trade in autos. When she got through, you'd never know it happened.

Yeah, that's a collision, meaning you scraped it turning into a parking spot, or someone scraped you pulling into/out of a parking spot.

Not a perfect solution but what I've done in the past is touch up paint, wet sand with 2500/3000. Buff and polish.
From five feet away you cant see the damage.

Finding an independent shop to respray the bumper is an option as well. I had my rear bumper respayed for $350.
No insurance rate hike, and it was less than my insurance deductible would have been.

Alcohol or nail polish will dry out your clear. Googone or wd40 will work best!

I notice you mentioned WIFE. Was she whistling while crossing her hands and looking innocent? Perhaps she took it for a spin earlier, bumped into something and tried to fix it but the repair fell off. Lol

Joking aside…just viper cut it. Looks better anyway!
