Does anyone have any information on the current port processing times at Newark? My 4Runner arrived there on May 28th and only just started Processing on June 19th.

The 4Runner is going to Pittsburgh and the estimated dealer arrival date was originally June 18th but that got pushed back to June 24th. I just want to know how realistic the 24th is for delivery. On the dealer daily it does not show that it needs to go by rail - after processing the next step is On Truck for Delivery.

edit: The estimated delivery has now been pushed back to Jun 26-28. This is the third delay now.

    thanks

    Edit: Timeline as of 6/24

    • 5/20 - Deposit Made - ETA 6/12-6/17
    • 5/28 - Arrives in Port Newark - ETA 6/12-6/17
    • 6/12 - ETA changed to 6/18
    • 6/18 - Vehicle enters Processing and I begin receiving alerts on the Toyota app. Mileage changes from n/a to 1 mile. ETA changed to 6/21-6/24
    • 6/21 - ETA changed to 6/24
    • 6/22 - Visited Port Newark and spoke to a very nice worker who looked up the VIN and confirmed that it was at the port, there were NO parts delays, and it was in in processing - ETA still 6/24
    • 6/23 - ETA changed to 6/26-6/28
    • 6/24 at 2:30pm - More Toyota app alerts. ETA changes to 6/25-7/3
    • 6/24 at 2:35pm - More Toyota app alerts. ETA changes to6/26-7/3

    Oooh look, another mod.....

The cyber attack on CDK has impacted all dealerships/manufacturers (Well, not ALL, but almost all). You won't be able to get an update until it's officially resolved. Just be patient and "hurry up and wait.".

My dealership claims they are not impacted by CDK hack as they use Reynolds

I'm not sure if Japan assembled vehicles undergo a port installation procedure like stateside Toyotas do. I think they do because I've heard that 4R's cross the water with plain steel wheels.

I figured as much, I understand there’s some assembly that happens at the regional port or port of entry. I guess I’m just curious on whether this is all done at once or is it carried out over a period of time while at the port.

I started getting alerts on the Toyota app on the 19th which coincides with when the vehicle entered Processing on dealer daily. The alerts continued happening on the 20th and now there’s been no updates.

Im trying to understand if they did everything that needed to be done to the vehicle during those two days and whether it’s ready to be put on a delivery truck, or maybe it’s on a truck already.

Yes, they do as you suspect. Some options are port installed and some trim-level specific items are port installed. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be there, but the checklist of what was done at port and what was done at the dealership was still in my cargo area when I picked it up.

My 4 runner is suppose to arrive today in Long Beach CA. cant wait to lay eyes on it! Wondering how long this process will take. I'm getting it bone stock without any port installed options so hopefully that will speed this process up!
As a side note. I had been looking for a T4R ORP w/o a sunroof here on the east coast and every dealer said they dont exist and I cant order it that way. I found one in Denver and I'll fly out and pick it up when it arrives at the dealer.

As an update, the estimated delivery just moved from the 24th to the 26th-28th. This is the third delay now.

I did go to the Newark Port because I live about 15 minutes away from it. Spoke with a very kind worker who was able to look up my VIN and confirmed it was at the port in processing and that there was no parts delay. It looks like it’s just truck driver availability.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to finalize the deal before the vehicle is delivered to the dealership?

My 4Runner arrived in Newark on 06-07 and was processed on 06-11. Arrived at the dealership in PA on 06-19 and we picked up on 06-20. Had a few small port installed options like cargo mats, door edge guards and roof rail cross bars. Hope you get yours soon! The 2 month wait for mine was brutal!

I’m happy to hear this but also sad at the same time because yours arrived at the port after mine and seems like it was expedited through. Was it a TRD Pro? I can live without the port options but it doesn’t sound like it’s an option to deliver it without them.

Just curious what trim level OP had order?
Because I bet the longest time is taken for TRD Pros as ton of stuff needs to be assembled at USA. Wheels, tires, roof rack, skids, etc.. etc....
The next longest delay I bet it would be for 4Runners with XP package where they put wheels, tires, badges.
The non TRD Pro trims that does not ordered with XP package, that are fully built in Japan should be released to the dealership pretty quick I guess.

It is a TRD pro. I was able to go to the port and got lucky and spoke with a worker who was near the gate. He was kind enough to look up the VIN and confirm there was no parts delays and that it was in processing.

Be happy you got the last few reliable Toyotas.

If you got a Tundra / LX600 you are waiting for a engine recall letter. If you had GX550 / Sequoia you are waiting for Toyota to include them in the recall for having same engine. If you ordered Land Cruiser / Tacoma back of your mind it will haunt will my engine blow up like the 3.4 turbo engines.. 2025 4Runner would have the same story I guess. You lucky #@%#% :p

I specifically got a 2023 Tacoma last year and now grabbing the 2024 4runner for this exact reason. I want the last of the OGs.

I have a TRD ORP. Would think if you have a Pro that it'll take a bit longer than other trims.

This is interesting - I didn’t know it ships like this. It’s been in processing for about a week now. I’m about to volunteer my services to go help get it TRD Pro ready - I have an impact wrench that needs to be used!

LOL. Bro, you are like a kid waiting for Christmas Day. I guess I'm spoiled. I found the exact 4Runner that I wanted sitting on the lot. No waiting was involved! Well, they waited on me because I found it on a Tuesday but didn't want to drive to the dealership until Saturday (my day off).

I know lol - it’s killing me. The thing that baffles me is that Toyota has manufacturing and supply chain down to a science. They damn near wrote the book that other companies learn from. The vehicle was manufactured in Japan and travelled 12 thousand miles across the Pacific, through the Panama Canal, and up the intercoastal waterway with no issues. And now it’s stuck in fucking Newark where they can’t find a truck driver to bring it 5 hours to the dealership. Absolutely incredible to me that this is where the bottleneck exists.

I just got back from the port again and they had all sorts of trucks there leaving with half full carriers. Someone in Toyota N.A. has not optimized these routes.

The delay isn't unusual. I got an extra 12 days last year waiting to catch a train. The status didn't change until the day I before was supposed to pick it up.

If misery loves company, then just know you are not the only one. ;) My TRD Pro arrived the same day at Newark port as yours, and we have had to deal with the same setbacks. To add to it, we sold the vehicle we were replacing it with two weeks ago based on our original delivery timeline. What's that they say about hindsight? This is the third new 4runner that we've purchased in the last two years (yes, we buy too many vehicles), and the other delivery schedules have gone like clockwork. We assumed this one would as well. Oops. Mine has still not hit the processing stage, and it has to travel to Virginia. At this point I'm hoping it arrives by July 4th, but I'm not holding my breath.
