To be fair I don't know where OP lives so I'm not sure if retuning is out of the question.

I spoke to an OTT tuner earlier today. He quoted me 600 to literally come to my house and tune/ test drive.
The Banks throttle controller is $300. I wouldn't quite call that apples to oranges. Compared to regearing or a supercharger they're both pretty inexpensive.

The tune can give you 10-20 more pound-feet of torque aand give you better throttle response. So if tuning is available in your area I'd consider it.

Of course, I don't see why you couldn't have both? Having the extra mid range torque and the ability to adjust the sensitivity of your throttle could have benefits

I also have to be fair, that if there was a tune in 2018 when I bought the SB, I would have one that route first. That is what I would recommend to all new owners. Throttle response with some more power is a win win.

OK, but you can't call it gutless if it's not even getting fuel for a half a second.

The 2UZ-FE in the 4th gen Runner was e throttle as well. It had more low end torque so it didn't suffer from what you are describing.

Some of you guys have never driven a stock tuned 3rd gen Tacoma. Now that thing… idk who from Toyota was in charge of programming that transmission shifting. 4runner drives much nicer in comparison.

Makes sense. A pedal controller won't work for me as I already have a ScanGauge plugged into the OBDII port for temp/ voltage monitoring.

Also I've had issues in the past with electronic throttles. The less I can complicate that system the better.
All that to say I may be a little biased here xD

I'm just saying what the device does which is irrelevant to how you drive. I have driven little cars, big cars, overweight cars... everything with them. Marketing is a hell of a drug and people want to validate their purchases when the vehicle feels faster at the same throttle input. Every one of these kinds of thread end up with people preaching how great they are.

I just want to curb expectations so people asking questions to understand what these do and they do nothing that can't be achieved with your own right foot. They don't make towing easier, merging easier, or your vehicle any faster off the line. They don't change shift points or increase economy and as we've already agreed, they certainly don't add power.

If the feeling makes you happy, again, it's your money. To me as someone who has spent years racing and off-road, I have great right foot control and they're a total waste of money.

And you did insinuate a lack of expertise when you posted this immediately following your earlier response. It was not directed specifically at me but be real.

I own a 2UZ. Lag is there, just not as bad. And I say again, the torque will not be there UNTIL the computer tells it to be there. What's funny is people that have never owned a V8 tell me I wasted my money on headers.

So that's more the abysmal gearing selection if you're talking about the 4-5-6 mess. 6th is far too deep for the power curve.

We did a third member swap from a wrecked 6MT TRDOR into a 6AT TRDOR and that little bit of gear made 6th so much more usable. That double OD is so deep you can get pretty crazy with the gearing if you really wanted to.

I just don't have a problem using my foot to accelerate. Maybe I just know it's a slow turd and adjust accordingly.

Man. Arrogant anecdotal circumstantial evidence continues to be posted here by folks poo-pooing throttle controllers.
I disagree with your opinion that the right foot can operate the throttle exactly the same, if I hypothetically knew how to operate my right foot “correctly”.
I’m aware that what boosters do is alter the throttle input signal sent to ECU. Alter, meaning, increase the speed.
“That makes the throttle feel more responsive but it does nothing to the responsiveness of the vehicle”
Square that statement circle for me..
It does affect the responsiveness of the vehicle; via throttle response time.

Y’all are trying to make me feel like I’m taking crazy pills, but I’ve driven my damn truck before and after a throttle response unit. It’s different, for a reason.

Seems like it takes about an hour for the thing to move sometimes

Yes I did insinuate that in this post, because people simply jump in here all the time with no pratical experience.
You tell me it does nothing but trick the throttle into opening sooner and does not add power. None of this I disagree with.
But you're telling me that when I stomp my foot there is no lag? And I have never had my foot to the floor with the engine barely getting up to 2k rpm and traffic on my ass? And when I put a controller in I was just imagining this problem went away? OK I will tell myself I imagined all that. Have a nice day, the impass has been reached.

Deleted my other so I could reply to this one but you cannot decrease the lag inherent to the system by adding a logic controller. Any perceived improvement is just a placebo related to the controller sending a wider throttle signal earlier in the curve based on your throttle input but the signal itself can't get there any faster.

Even worse, the controller must increase the delay before the ECU responds, even if only by a few ms, because you're adding a logic chip to the circuit. If the signal is delayed from the sensors in the pedal, you aren't sending them any faster to a controller and if the delay is with the ECU response, it's not going to respond any faster because the signal is coming from the controller.

So with that logic, stomping your foot w no controller also increases the delay because the computer has to process the wider signal?

Well I can't play anymore, because the airline pilots just told me my phone is causing throttle lag w the plane...

The signal is just a voltage (well multiple, parallel voltages for failsafe). Electricity over a wire travels at nearly the speed of light (it varies by environment but it's faster than is important) regardless of voltage, but electricity through controllers is constrained by the processing speed of the controller. The controller reads the input voltage, looks up the new value, and outputs that voltage on the wire. By the laws of physics, that process is going to be longer than just allowing the original voltage along the wire even if it's nanoseconds. It cannot be faster and thus, cannot decrease the lag.

These units are not useful to me. I think my 4Runner accelerates just fine. They may be 99.9% safe but I also don't want to leave anything communicating with the vehicle computer when I am trying to drive.
