Adding twice the amount of waste oil to the environment makes the world a better place?

Yeah, you drank the kool-aide alright

My '76 Nova specified oil changes every 2500 miles. My wife's '68 Beetle specified oil changes every 1500 miles. Somehow we managed not be traumatized.

No, I haven't. I maintain a very strict and healthy diet, and it doesn't include Kool-Aid, even sugar free Kool-Aid.

That was with carbureted engines built to much looser tolerances and organic oil over 50 years ago. Your Toyota specifies 10,000 mile oil changes with synthetic oil. I fail to see your point.

My point is that you hyperventilate about oil changes as an economic catastrophe, yet we had to do so many more of them when we were young and poor.

I'm not hyperventilating about anything, just pointing out that changing the oil more often than necessary is a waste of money.

Used oil is recycled for and used for other applications so it's not really waste.

First change 3-5k and then every 5k after. I dont care if its synthetic, just keep the 5k oil change intervals and youll be sure to reach over 250k on your odometer

Would you be willing to post the whole report? With the industry averages Blackstone includes? And also their statement on the condition of the oil and their estimate on its useful life based on TBN and recommendation for how long to go before the next oil change? I’ve used Blackstone a lot and the entire report really provides context needed to understand the data you’ve included.

On my 23 limited, I drove normal both around town and Highway, changed oil at 1K, 3K then every 5K.

Thanks! Good report! I usually send a sample at 50K and 100K on my vehicles. I’ll probably pull a sample and send it at 100K for my Limited as I’m piling up the miles pretty quick. I’m changing my oil every 5K to 6K miles these days, which is about every 6 weeks at the rate I’m driving. Enjoy your 4R!

Changed my oil at 750, 1,500 and most recently (2weeks ago) at 5,000 miles. Close inspection at 750 miles revealed shiny particles in filter pleats and filter housing, cleaned housing, shit canned filter. Replaced with OEM Toyota filter and oil. Received a 20% discount on parts, due to purchasing the vehicle at that dealership. At 1,500 miles, 90% of particles gone, just a few in oil filter pleats. Replaced with OEM products. At 5,000 miles particles undetectable with human eye. Replaced with OEM products. Will continue with 5,000 mile intervals, due to off-roading fun lately and light towing

With this much driving, you may be able to prolong your oil change intervals. I recommend doing samples at every 2K without changing oil and asking the lab to help you zero in on optimal oil change interval. Not that I recommend doing that, but I have seen good oil reports @20K posted with usage that is similar to yours.

That is, regular steady highway driving is probably easiest on the engine and oil. You may be able to go longer than what you currently doing.

My trips are all short, so it is extreme use case for me. Plus, I am more likely to hit 1 year than 5K miles considering that 4Runner is one of many cars I have.
