Tire Rotation - Easiest Method for DIY?

    I have an older Dewalt 20 volt max from before Wilfuckyee was at the top of their game. It hasn't died so I haven't found the need to replace it all with new Wilfuckyee.

    I did my first rotation with the OEM screw jack. It was torture. Even one floor lift makes it seem like no work at all.

    2 floor jacks would be nice. But, you still need to move it from place to place. Or, use jack stands.

    I just lift the front from the skid, and put it on jack stands, then lift the back At the diff. Then all 4 are off the ground.



    Dewalt is good stuff, too. I didn't care much for Milwaukee until the Fuel line came out (2015/2016-ish).

    I lift both rear tires at the same time from the diff and the front one at a time from the control arm. Much quicker than setting jack stands.

    I doubt that.

    I only have to lift the front once. Not sure how long it's taking people to set down a jack stand and slide it up to the frame. But, I assume it's not any longer than the time it takes to lower the jack, drag it to the other side, and lift it.

    I'd bet the difference is negligible, if anything. And, it's safer to not be lifting and lowering the front while the rear is sitting on a jack.

    What? It takes about 20 seconds to lift the vehicle with a floor jack. Swap the tire, drop the jack and done. With a jack stand you need to jack up the car place the stands under, lower it and shift them around a bit and remove the jack. Then when you’re finished jack it up again to remove the stands. I think I’ll keep doing it my way. :D

    Seems like you really struggle with jack stands. :boink:

    All you have to do is slide it under the frame and lift it up, then drop the vehicle on them.

    Also, aren't you draining your oil while you rotate the tires? Much easier if the vehicle isn't moving around.

    I'm sure either way is good. I just like to lift the whole thing, rotate the tires, change the oil, and drop it.

    I’ve used jack stands my whole life. I bought a second floor jack last year. Game changer. Like I said.
    I don’t change the oil at the same time. I don’t jack the car up for oil changes either.

    One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
    Rear axle- jack stands.
    Front, one at a time w/floor jack and have one of the rears ready to put on immediately after a front comes off.
    Edit:
    My thinking is I want any corner held by just the floor jack to be without a wheel the absolute minimum amount of time. I trust jack stands more than a jack.

    Why not, though? Unless you're doing 10K intervals, it just makes sense to knock both out at the same time. The only time I don't is when I'm switching to a different set of tires between changes.

    Either way, it takes all of 3 minutes to get the whole thing lifted and on jack stands. I spend more time tightening the lug nuts than I do screwing with the jack and jack stands.

    Seriously, though, there's always more than one way to do things. I think the most important thing is just developing a routine that works for you and sticking to it.

    I don't like the idea of the front going up and down and moving around while the back is balancing on the jack, but that's just me.

    I also like to change my oil and rotate the tires at the same time. Usually by the time I'm done rotating the tires the oil is completely drained. So, I change the filter, put the plug in, and lower it down. Then, I top off the oil and torque everything. I know it's kind of weird to make two things into one routine, but it seems to work well for me.

    My issue is that my socket while a "non marring lug nut" type isn't long enough and my torque wrench doesnt clear the tires when trying to torque down the lugs.

    Is it ok to use an extension? I figured it would screw up the torque value.

    @Spare Parts has a good idear starting with putting the spare on the first rear

    I have a 6ton jack floor jack and 3ton jack stands.
    I like rearward cross.
    I like to just send it on jacking one side of the frame rail, swap front and rear while on two jack stands. Repeat on other side.
    Then jack up the pumpkin and swap the rear, which we’re just in the front.

    I knew I wanted to Watch Thread as soon as I saw the title! (good info here to help one think outside the box)

    *edit: I also use the front centre jack position and my kits engine skid is reinforced making contact at this jack point for safe lifting. The point is off centre for balance, so I throw piece of wood across the span which also helps with scratches

    Yes, you can use an extension. From what I've read, it will not affect your torque value.

    With an extension it clears the tire and it fits my lugs and wheels, however my lug nuts are funky

    I just wasnt keen on having to use an extension, but if its ok then no issues for me.

    I have factory black lugs on order, so will be switching these all out soon hopefully.

    Cautionary statement on using impact tools to loosen. You miss the opportunity to learn something about the threaded fastener connection. Is it tight, loose, cross-threaded, etc.?
