What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

warshing the truck tnite with the 3 yr old, little brother had his 2nd Birthday party today so he passed out


Anyone else tint their taillights with, dare I say it, decals!? (removable like lamin-x).

I put some juice in the rear diff. I was going to do the front one, too, but that will have to wait for another day.

 

No pics, but had a chance to do my first tinkering.

- Donger power adapter and Garmin mini dash cam installed

- Put a ProTech screen protector on the head unit screen and the gauge cluster screen…that thing was a real pain to get on somewhat smoothly since it’s curved!

- added the auto dimming sensor in the dash - super quick and easy

looking forward to Clazzio leather seats coming in a few weeks…my fingers are(n’t) ready!

 

X2 27F battery, tundra tray and “voltage booster pro” diode system to replace a Toyota battery that barely lasted 2 years.

Hopefully I don’t have to test the 48 month warranty on this one.

 

not too bad… they did give me 4 undersized washers for the security bolts (I went to Home Depot and got the correct size). The video made it look easy to take out the 2 long bolts - 1 was easy, but I did have to use a jack to get the other bolt to come out for each side.
I did scrap my knuckle pretty hard on the passenger side, but I was rushing to get this job wrapped up and that was my fault - the CR logo is sharp!.

Overall, I like the product and feel much better that they’re on there. A thief could grind out the 4-5 bolts per side with an angle grinder before using the sawzall, but I don’t think they will do all this work unless they are really desperate (especially on 2 sides).

 

Yeah, mine only lasted 2 yrs 364 days. Toyota covered it but really sad performance.

 

When they tuned my 4R, they said a software tune could increase the voltage too with no chance of harming the truck. Not sure if that helps.

Installed catalytic shield protector. Easy install.

 

if I was getting a tune, I’d do that…. But the diode system works great at this point.

 

Just added a one foot extension to the AC drain line, now it drains below the frame.

 

Last week a couple cars in my neighborhood had their catalytic converters stolen. Not like I worry because I have the urd midpipe which eliminated the last two cats.

But it does make me wonder what the 4runner cats are worth in the underground market.

 

They sell for 6 bags of meth in most regions.

 

Started the day by getting the Overland Torque Tune installed by Ryan at Colorado Toyota Tuning (https://www.coloradotoyotatuning.com/). Super experience, Ryan is a pro!
Enjoyed the drive home from Denver with the new tune. Got home and did a complete wash, clay bar, light polish and ceramic coat. Should be good to go for a while.

Meth must be cheap. I asked a buddy who mainly scraps honda/Acura. He's said both 4runner cats are worth $100. I wouldn't even waste my time on 4r if I was in the business.

 

I chuckled a wee bit too much at this (considering my line of work). But I do like some dark humor.

Cleaned it, got a new Plano Sportsman’s tote to organize all the goodies. Sure it will stay looking good for about 6 more hours or until the kids get in.

 

Did a lot of wiring. Reinstalled door panels, roof liner. Ordered some more wires and adaptors I'm missing.

Whole new stereo. All new speakers, sub, wires, amps, head unit, new back up cam, adding a forward facing cam, replacing the inverter

 

The header liner cam out all the way for soundproofing the roof. Wires in the back would require it to be moved a little and also adding a new mic in the front.
