On a 2023 JBL system; with no subscription does it just go blank or are the basic maps retained but not updated or overlayed with real time traffic and POI data?

Without the subscription, all you lose is Destination Assist (live help by voice). Regular navigation continues to operate as normal. Mine subscriptions lapsed a while ago, which I can tell because I don't have the green light on the SOS button anymore. However, cloud navigation still works. I posted this on another thread over the weekend.

4runner is the last of its kind for toyota. All the newer vehicles have a big gigantic screen with no inbuilt map unless you pay up, again. So bring a paper map if you go out of cell range.

If everybody is doing this, I wish they would just not put anything on the dash at all, except for maybe a spot to mount your phone or tablet for nav, since that’s what you’ld be linking to the screen. One less thing to break.

Traffic data comes in over the HD radio and works without a subscription. . I don’t know if the POI info updates without a subscription.

Could be worse - you could lose your heated seats like Audi if you don't pay.

I use WAZE on my iphone and it is free as well as its updates and displays on the screen thru apple play. Android phones can do the same, forget name of app. Much less complicated than OEM and again free

Too poor to buy anything now
I said it in another thread, my wife's 2023 Crown has the new cloud navigation system. And yes, after the one year free Connected Services, you have to subscribe to get navigation to work. My 2024 4Runner does not have the same system so navigation will continue to work. I only suspect that the 2025 4Runner (and other Toyota models) will have the new system.
Here's a pic of the new system:

Notice the lack of physical buttons.

I'm fine with that, I thought I read it would go blank like your Crown. So if a set of maps are saved in the unit and are only updateable if you subscribe, couldn't you just subscribe for a month every couple years and stay up to date?

Audi losing heated sets should be a class action suit. It's one thing to cancel a feature provided for free, something else to shut down hard parts (TEDS or heat grids) that were bought and paid for by the consumer.

I carplay 99% of the time but do like having what I paid for as a backup.

you can go to privacy settings and change stuff to prevent some. My guess is OEM does similar
