I've been flying around the country for 20 years in my field. Flew into SF last year, it was the first time an airport Hertz specifically told all renters, DO NOT leave valuables in your rental because of all the theft there.
Went to Portland last year also, stayed at a Hotel downtown. On the main street into the city center, 2 blocks from the Hotel, was someone sitting on the sidewalk, hitting a stem. 15 feet away was someone else passed out slumped over, and 30 ft down from there were people eating at an outdoor cafe. Completely oblivious.
Trash and feces in a lot of places around the Hotel. Derelict cars parked on city streets w people living in them. Sorry, not down with any of this. You can defend it all you want, but you will never convince me this is good for any community. Period.

Just drove over 400 miles on i5, o try to stay within 10 of the speed limit Nd that’s not hard with a 4Runner.

I got passed by a cyber truck going so fast it moved me in my lane and woke my wife up. I am A OK if this is real.

Me too. People passing in the slow lane mad because you’re not going 100 like they are. People on the 55 go way too fast south and the ones hauling ass north usually head up the 57 or the 5.

Yeah, we tried that here in '70s under Jimmy Carter. Because of a gas shortage caused by Arabs cutting production. The feds also cut the maximum speed limit from 65mph to 55mph. Probably the dumbest govt. edict ever thought up. It took decades for that to get repealed and return to the previous max mph. I love driving on those wide open highways posted at 75mph without worrying about seeing red flashing lights in my rear view mirror.

If they have room to pass you in the slow lane, you should probably be over there. ;)

Unless you're talking about a 3 lane highway. Then they should pass on the left.

And how do you propose to limit lethal-levels of air pollution? If it's so bad that they have to limit use of the combustion engine, then yes, maybe you should listen to the scientists, finally.

Ah, nevermind, I understand better than to engage with your type. See you at the boogaloo!

But don't the police even think about pulling over Altimas and infities with fake or no plates and 2-4 young males with ski masks on. That would be like being literal Nazis.

Oh many of them realize. But once one commits to himself to the "AlwaysVote___" train it's hard to get off without hurting their own ego.

A lot of people moving out of CA to go to red states then move to new states and vote the same way, then wonder why the locales they move to quickly look like where they left.

Oh, let me start by saying that solving air pollution in a developed country is very different compared to doing it in a third world country. A country with more density of population per square mile than NYC at rush hour with a frailing public transport system and where about 30% of the population earns less than $100 a day for a family of 4. That is more than the entire population of USA plus 100 million more people. These people will need their private transport to get to work to earn that $100. Due to a ban, they use rental services to get to work. That still puts excessive cars on the roads and also leads to arbitrary pricing and rip off.Not to mention the added cost that they will have to bear to get to work for not able to use their own mode of transport. A travesty for an already struggling lower middle class to meet the bills.
I am not even going to go into income disparity, selective enforcement, flawed logic, poor data collection, how the rules are only for the poor, immunity for the elites, etc etc.

You do not know me or where I come from and there was no need for you to make that statement. But I refer to people like you as living room pseudo intellectuals that suffer from selective idealism.
Do you even have a passport and understand how the world works beyond your annual Disney trips, or driving your Tesla to Starbucks and discussing about excessive industrial pollution in Bangladesh and how they should close all factories to protect the bay of Bengal makes you feel relevant.
Oh wait, you drive a 4runner. You are part of the problem actually with that 15 mpg you car gives.

I recently visited San Diego for the first time. My first visit to California. I was advised against visiting San Francisco so we decided San Diego. The beautiful weather aside, I was shocked with what I saw. That's all ia m going to say.

I don’t have to get over more than just out of the fast lane. I’m going 70-75 in a 65 with people going 80 in the fast lane but it’s not fast enough for copium addicts.

I think it’s funny how people will cry about the fast lane law but then break the speed limit and don’t want that law enforced.

I don't care how slow anyone wants to drive in the slow lane, or the cruising lane(s), if available. Obviously, there's a point where it becomes ridiculous, which is why there's a minimum speed posted in some areas.

I can't understand why anyone would rather have someone who's in a hurry stuck behind them and pissed off rather than letting them pass so they can go tailgate someone else.

If everyone would just respect the purpose of the lanes, there would be a lot less road rage. Who cares if another guy is speeding? Let them pass and maybe they'll get pulled over.

It has less to do with being in a hurry and more to do with people thinking they’re above the law.

IIRC, the 10 mph over "initiative" was intended to be a mandate for automobile makers to detect speed limit and self limit max speed to plus 10 over. The technology could be made to work with GPS but the Big Brother aspect would be too much even for moderate libs. Believe it or not, car culture in California is still very strong. Any effort to roll back their rights will awaken them.

Unfortunately they don’t deal with them but you will care if they hit someone you care about. Just the other day some minor stole a car and wrecked it which killed someone as he was running from the cops. The losers here want to blame the cops.

You're not going to get them to slow down, so you're better off just letting them by. I'd rather have people speeding in the left lane than weaving through traffic.

What's ironic is that overdose deaths in the US were over double the figures of traffic deaths in 2023. But, the gov and the media give traffic deaths way more attention. 40k traffic deaths, 100k overdose deaths.

If the gov was really interested in saving ALL lives, then wouldn't the attention, mandates, and restrictions be directed at the most lethal problem?

Oh wait a minute, that would infringe on my God given right to get F-ed up, crap on a city sidewalk and then pass out in my own feces, steel from someone's car, break into or shoplift from businesses, and generally just be a tick on societies back.

Yet the cartels and pharma still operate almost at will......

I am not suggesting an innocent victim of a speeder should be any less tragic than an overdose death, but the hypocrisy in some of these mandates paints a different picture of purpose in my mind.
