I just had my 4Runner Ceramic Coated hoping that it will at least help with any really bad chipping issues of the paint. Has anyone had any success with ceramic coating? The PPF was just too expensive for me.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
I don't think ceramic coating will help with paint chipping. That would be a defect in the paint itself. Ceramic coating does two main things:

    1) It helps get the truck cleaner, faster. (and give it a super glossy shine)
    2) It helps repel the dirt/dust/road grime so it stays cleaner longer.

It also (very minor though) helps with chipping. But only for small rock chips or bugs. Don't expect it to be a catch all and protect you from everything. I know paint chipping was an issue on 2nd & 3rd Gen Tacoma's, but I hadn't heard anything about 4Runners. I guess any vehicle can have this happen, if weather conditions are right. E.G. You live in the desert or in harsh weather conditions.

EDIT: This is from AI when I asked Google the question:

Ceramic coating doesn't prevent paint chipping, but it can make it easier to see rock chips and reduce their visibility. Ceramic coating reduces surface friction, making paint more slippery and easier to clean. This can help make rock chips less noticeable and less likely to penetrate the paint. However, the coating isn't thick enough to protect against the high-velocity impact of rock chips, which can cause scratches, dents, or chip away paint.

Ceramic coating won't provide protection from paint chipping. It will provide a nice hydrophobic layer (if maintained) that will make washing your car way easier.

Thanks for all the information. I'll take a pic soon, storms here in Michigan today with probable hail. The Underground color is certainly pretty neat. I've not seen another one on the road as of yet.
Another question I had is at what mileage should I get my first oil change? This is my first Toyota.

Pretty controversial in regards to oil change. I’m just going with the Toyota Maintenance Schedule at 10k
