Gently used tires

I have about 6k miles on my 23 nitto grapplers that came stock and am thinking about upgrading. Just curious, everyone that upgrades with very low miles on the tires - what do you do with them? Is there a market place for gently used tires? Will the tire shop give me anything for them?

 

Definitely a market for low mileage tires. Some tire shops will buy them or sell on Facebook marketplace etc.

 

Discount Tire gave me $50 per tire with about 5k on them. YMMV.

 

Sold mine on CL once I put AT3's on my 23.

 

I sold my 285 Nitto RG’s for about half what they were new w/25k on them. Barely worn.

Replaced with same tire in 265 when I removed the 3/2 lift.

 

I tried to sell my factory Dunlop's to Discount Tire, but they said something about liability issues/legal issues. They couldn't buy used tires. My tires only has 11 miles on 'em, but they still wouldn't buy them!

I eventually sold them online and got a good price for them. It took 4 weeks though.

 

Craigslist or Offerup has worked for me. You can also post here & on our sister site under Wheels & Tires in the Buy/Sell/Trade area.

 

Sold several sets on FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE.

 

Sounds like a store owner issue. DT has been taking used tires here for years.

 

Yep, I called some shops around but ended up just putting them on Craigslist.

 

Great, thanks for the info. I’ve been looking into what tires I want to get just have never sold a used set. My tires have typically been at the end of their lifespan, so I’ve always had the tire place dispose of them.

 

FBMarketplace and you'll get maybe 300-500 for them

 

I s till have the P rated nittos too. Ill likely replace those with LT C rated 255/75-17s

 

FB Marketplace was/is my friend selling my 4Runner stuff.

Craigslist only won one time selling my Limited 20in wheels.

 

I bought a used set of (5) 285/70/17 Falken MTs with around 500miles for $500 on CL. They were from a Jeep owner as they came stock on his jeep. Mounted the 5th tire as a spare, which had zero miles on it.

Used the set of 4 for a couple years and ran over 30K miles on them. Posted them back on CL with decent tread left and sold them for $600. Even kept the 5th tire

People will buy used tires if you price them well.
