Hello Everyone I’m glad we found this website.

I have a question recently we visited a dealer in Southern California been wanting a 4Runner for a long time. They had 2018 SR5 with some type of custom wheels and it was a 2WD.

They sold it to me for 39 out the door but my credit union refused to pay 39 instead they offered 37 and they agreed. As soon as drive off the dealer the car started making a bell sound on one of the tires. Since we purchased the car at the night time the next morning I noticed lots of scratches on the car.

Took the car back and they fixed the tires noise but they refused to fix all the tires instead they wanted to lower $500 less. Since I’m purchasing a new car not used I decided to unwind the deal instead and they said I will never find another 4Runner for 37 with custom wheels. What do you guys think?

lol, this is laughable. You will find another one, maybe even 4wd. Never trust a dealer. Also, you can always get new rims and tires if you find a 4Runner you like that doesn't already have them. Dealers will often put accessories like wheel/tires/etc.. on less desirable models (2wd) in order to make the vehicle a little more desirable. They will also charge handsomely for those accessories over what you would pay outside the dealer. I'm my opinion 37k is still about 3k too high for a 2wd 4Runner.

I bought a 2018 TRD Off-road brand new for 36. Put the trd pro wheels on it and some nicer tires and it was still less than you tried paying originally. The 4Runner and pro wheels alone was less than 37k. Not to mention the off road is 4WD

Wow.! that was close..! you can do much better, especially if you're not looking for 4WD.

How do you „unwind“ a deal? In California there is no cooling off period, you buy and sign for the car it is yours.

Next time take a friend with you who knows how to negotiate.

Bought a new Off-road Premium for 36500 in Phoenix. Don’t let the dealer lie and scam you. They are not looking out for your pockets, only their own.

    I concur.

If the deal can be unwound, un-fucking-wind it. Then do some research, go to a more reputable dealer, buy a totally stock new unit, and do it in the daytime.

Fast tip: if your bank refuses to lend you the amount the dealer wants on a new car with no negative equity involved (like being upside down on a trade) then the dealer is ripping you off. Banks will usually loan out over 100%, usually like 110% of MSRP... if they draw the line then you should have drawn the line way before then...

And not to turn this into a "I got this deal" thread, but to point out... we're also in California, and bought our '17 SR5s new (4WD) for $34,900 OTD... 'course we didn't get any sweet wheels so...

A 2wd sr5,.. for 40,.. jesus. Paid 5k less for my Off road, with lift and tires. (Utah)

Makes me wanna drive down to so cal, and sell my rig, just to get back here, buy another and keep doing that.
Never go to that dealership again,.. unless it's to take a dump on the property.

Damn that’s better than mine. In the Midwest 36k was the lowest I could find on the off-road.

40 grand for a 2wd SR5??? Run, run as fast as you can. My TRD Off Road Premium with KDSS and Moon Roof was under 40,000.

so I am surprised you have been looking for a LONG time to buy a 4runner and why did you pay that much ?

I know s. cali is not a good place to buy these since many have gone to other states and make the purchase.
they did the wheel change to scam a buyer .. probably the wheels they put on are pure china !

By “unwind” do you mean that you returned the car and cancelled the purchase? I hope you did! Wait a few weeks, find another dealer, and a 2018 once the 2019’s have come in.

I'm in socal and that's just ridiculous for a 2wd. The special wheels are pure profit for them .I was at a local dealer waiting for them to check it my 4r and I walked the forfl. They were charging 8k for wheels and tires on top of the price . Total rip, I'm mostly Chris how you were able to unwind the deal.
