Are the body mount bushings removed and the interior of the body mount and backside of the newly welded filler plate usually painted when a BMC is done? The outside is always seen painted but I’ve never seen or heard of the inside being gone over with some protection or the bushing being removed at all. Is it usually left as raw steel in there?

I used various wire brushes on the inside after welding to clean it up, then used an anti rust paint, then more normal paint after that.

Because it was a weird angle and couldn't see anything I was just fucking guessing and spraying paint and sprayed way more than needed.

I taped up the mount with painters tape.

Sounds like you can still take the bushings out after the BMC? I’m trying to fit 285/70R17s on 17x8.5 wheels w/ -10 offsets so I’m hoping to push back the body mount just enough where I can still take the bushings out and go over the inside as thoroughly like you have. I see some BMCs with the filler plate angled back so much that the bushings can no longer be removed.

I left my bushing in for the process but yes I can remove my bushings.

With the plate I got, and pretty much all of them, it's very customizable. You get to cut out what you want to weld a plate where you want; and make the bushings removable.
