Anyone removed front and rear bumper valence for good?

Cheapest solution = Swap to SR5 Bumpers

I took mine off with a high-speed creek crossing. Looks like crap, I am ashamed. It also projects, "Get out of my way, I don't care about scratches!"

The junkyard bumper came off a crashed 4R. I haven’t installed it yet!

The silver one is mine. The picture of the white one came from 80% Off Road. I will be installing mine in a couple weeks.

If I do it right that’s how it will look.

 

This photo looks devoid of Hooman Life. One ponders the reason you would stop for a photo in the water? Tis not logical

 

LOL, Spock's logic is usually sound, but he failed to consider this photo was taken in late afternoon, towards the end of a trip. I took off my shoes to get the photo, washing and chilling my feetsies after a day of hiking. Very nice! Also, I usually have a bucket with me, so I'll park here or whatever boatramp I pass by, to rinse the mud and dust off my truck. This particular pond was part of a non-permitted, failed development, sterile and dead, so a little runoff isn't doing any harm. And as I wash my truck, I also get wet and cooled off, and generally reset my attitude before I drive the final 45 minutes to home....

That's what I did recently after my tube bumper install and tire swing. Looks clean.

 

I saw your post and was stoked that you already had that rear bumper installed. I went off searching for your images to see if you had posted about it.
Now i see that one is White. Any updates on when the bumper is coming in?

I have the sacrificial limited bumper. Just need 80% to ship out the kit and I'll weld it in!
Six week lead time. Going on on week seven now..

 

When Nick was installing my bash bar and tire swing on the 12th, there was one guy ahead of you for a kit build and ship. He's working hard to fill all their orders right now and has stopped doing installs for a while. You should have it very soon.

My bash bar and tire swing are bulletproof. Already knocked the left side pretty good under the side hoop. Only needs a touch up of bed liner paint.

I actually considered scheduling something with them and road tripping over to California again. The in laws live there so it'd be a multipurpose visit.
Still might consider it when I get their swingout... For now I'm sticking with the factory spare location since it fits my 285/75/17 just fine.

 

Just got a shipment notification for the 80%OR Bash bar. Hoping to get this installed before Texas Toyota Takeover on June 6th-9th.

Gonna be a tight timeline.

 

And here I am with an SR5P wishing there was a front valance version that could use 3M take or something to stick it on.

 

MGM is such a common color you may be able to find someone with a pro style bumper who either
1. Doesn't care for the valence
2. Needs to chop up the bumper for aftermarket bumper/winch

IMO black valences look cool but they constantly pop off and take damage. But hey to each their own!

 

I don't know if I'm lucky or unlucky, but my SloRunner didn't come with a front or rear valence cover.

 

The anniversary edition is an SR5 premium right?
I think the valences only came on the Pro’s or TRD Off Roads.

 

Yeah, it's just a fancy ass version of the SR5 Premium. I think I have a few more options than that trim level.

I don't agree with "paint to match", I don't think those fascia panels will look right in body color.

As an example look at a silver OR; the panels just don't look right to me being the same color as the truck.

I'm actually having mine painted black as I think that's a better look on my particular color but if swapping for an SR5 was an option I'd absolutely go that route.

One of my favorite trail guides has modified his rear bumper so it doesn’t catch obstacles and pop off.



Though I suppose if you don’t want to cut your bumper just removing it entirely solves the problem

Yup. Personally I'll opt for the 80% kit I mentioned earlier in this thread.

But just chopping off the bottom is definitely the cheapest and easier way to avoid you bumper damage on the trail. Well... Next to just removing it entirely like @MI-FL off roader mentioned.

 

thats a 500$ I'd like to keep! Any downsides to just chopping? Im now entertaining the idea.
Someone gonna mention I wasnt ok with taking my bumper off now I want to cut into it lol.

 

Cutting pro actively before you take a hit makes some sense if your hitting trails. Mine has taken some hits and is messed up. Took too long to find a donor salvage yard bumper. In hind sight I wish that I had dealt with it knowing the rear bumper was a weak spot.
